Advertising to ME!

I’ve become a bit disconcerted lately, because recently there have appeared a number of commercials which are not simply aimed at my demographic group, but me in specific (I’m convinced of it-- they have spies).
Some of the commercials are getting very hip and ironic but sensitive (oooh, just like US) and aiming directly at kids in their late 20’s- early 30’s, and doing a very effective job.
It started a year or so back with the VW commercial with the Orb happy-fluffy-cloud song in the background. Someone else has brought up the newer VW commercials in another thread. The one where the kids just drive around listening to the stereo in the convertable at night also made us all go “awww.”
Some other car commercial (I think) has the pro skater Tony Hawk hanging around with his kid, and my 31 year old skater (and waiting on me to decide I’d like to breed, finally) husband’s jaw dropped and he said, “Oh my God, the Television is talking to ME.” The Volvo commercial with the dot communard who wakes up in his car (obviously in the bay area) outside his nice little startup made my programming 28 yeear old sister go “holy christ on a crutch. I think I need a Volvo.”
Has anyone else had a similar realization? Those clever clever ad guys. I feel so. . . demographed and be-marketed.

My sister always says that I am “an advertisers gift from god”. I seea comercial and I HAVE to try it. At least once mind you. But whats wrong with that? I love my Mr. Clean antiseptic wipes!

I can usually sniff the stuff out.

My demographic group is one person large, as I don’t stereotypically fit into any category, all things considered.

Don’t you just love when commercials generalize about a specific demographic, thus saying that every person who is X does Y? Just makes me feel all warm and tingly to know they “know” me.
