Carroll’s legal team is asking for Trump’s DNA.
I’ve not followed this thread. I do think Trump is a rapist, and I hope he is successfully prosecuted.
But while perusing the thread I saw “JP.” I tracked this to “Jordan Peterson” whom I’d never heard of. I clicked on only one Google hit. I’ll report the hit for any other Dopers unfamiliar with JP:
The 2018 article, “Why the Left Is So Afraid of Jordan Peterson” in Atlantic.
It makes for a nice callback to the Clinton era (especially with Ken Starr being on Trump’s defense team) but even if it’s Trump’s DNA on a rather oddly uncleaned and undiscarded and questionable chain-of-custody dress, I’m not sure how that proves rape. It’s potential evidence in support of Carroll’s claims, but the statute of limitations has long expired in any case, hasn’t it?
I believe she is bringing a defamation claim against Trump, not a rape case.
The lawsuit is about defamation – and this could be evidence that Trump lied and thus defamed her when he said she was making this up and that he’s never met her.
Fair enough, I admit my confusion from various references to wanting to see Trump go to jail or prison and mistakenly inferring that it would be for rape. Yes, I’d like to see her sue for defamation and hopefully not accept any kind of settlement that requires nondisclosure.
If it’s DNA from skin cells, I wouldn’t think that would be very useful. There’s already a picture of them together. The DNA could easily be explained away by saying Trump brushed his hand against her coat while they were at the event for some innocent reason. But if there’s DNA all over the coat, especially on the inside, then that would be a sign that it wasn’t just a causal touch that left the DNA.
Never mind, missed the detail about skin cells.
double post
I might be missing something, but I thought that the picture of them together was from a totally different time and place and had nothing to do with the store incident.
Yeah, I think that’s true. In any case, it shows the type of casual interaction between them which could have easily left skin cells on a jacket. Even if the picture wasn’t from the night in question, she may of had the jacket at that party anyway. If the pattern of the DNA on the jacket or type of DNA doesn’t imply a rape, then it would be simple to think up lots of other innocent ways for a few of Trump’s skin cells to end up on the jacket.
Or oo, someone retrieved a discarded paper cup Trump drank from at an event, obtained DNA and planted it on the coat!
The possibilities are mind-boggling.
Somehow I think this case is going in the same direction as Tulsi Gabbard’s $50 million lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, i.e. nowhere.
