Advice for visiting Corsica?

My wife & I are thinking of a Corsica vacation later this year. We have spent quite a lot of time over the years in France & Italy, but never got to Corsica.
We are fairly budget travellers: fine with B&Bs and neighborhood restaurants; not looking for any luxury packages. We like waterfront environments though we are not water sport people. Also like mountains and hiking (though at our age nothing very strenuous). Interested in art and archaeology, enjoy trying regional food and wine.
So, all suggestions welcome. And tips on things to avoid, of course.

Rather looks as though no board members have been to Corsica?

Not unexpected, I guess: it isn’t high on many lists of essential European destinations.
But that’s actually sort of the appeal for us: over years of European travel we have seen a lot of the bucket list places one way or another, and somewhere different seems interesting?

No worries. Suggestions still welcome, and if we go, we will report…

I LOVE Corsica! I’ve been to the northernmost part twice — once as a teen in the late 80s (my friend and I rented mopeds, and slept on beaches and cow pastures), and again with my wife around 2008, to visit a friend who lives there.

I think you’ll love it! Our friend lives in Calnezana, a little old village a bit inland from the north coast. Delightful coastal towns nearby include Saint-Florent and Calvi. We also visited the inland “university town” of Corte, in the mountains - wonderful. There’s a light-gauge train that passes through some of the north-coast towns; I haven’t taken it, but looks worth checking out.

We’re possibly visiting in April, so definitely hoping this thread is more active.
