Advice -- Traveling to Chicago in a couple of weeks

I’m reading another recent thread on this, but I have some specific questions, and I thought I shouldn’t revive that one?

I’m going to be in Chicago for work Sunday evening through Friday. I’ll have Sunday evening and most of the day Monday free – just doing a short work thing around happy hour on Monday.

I’m staying on the Magnificent Mile.

Which things worth doing can I do in the evening? I’ll really only have time for daytime sightseeing during the day on Monday. What should I do with that one day?

Also, sort of random question – I had family in Michigan when I was growing up. We would occasionally get pickled bologna when someone would visit. I’d love to bring some back if I can get it in Chicago. So, can I? Do I need to go somewhere special to find it? Is it the same as the Michigan kind?

If you’ll be staying on the Mile, you’ll be close to Second City and Blue Man Group, and both companies show performances on Sunday evenings in July.

Have you taken a Chicago River tour yet? A unique view of the city.

The Art Institute is open until 8 on Wednesdays.

I’ve not ever heard of pickled bologna, and I’ve lived in Chicago for 35 years. I suspect it may be a Michigan thing. :frowning:

Is it this coming week, or the following? Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me tapes most of their shows in Chicago on Thursday evenings. I just checked and they’re not doing a show on the 4th, but I did see one for the 11th.

One of my colleagues just mentioned looking into tickets! Thanks for the extra details. I need to double check the schedule, but I might do this.

Yes, it probably really is just a Michigan thing. It can be ordered online, but it’s a nostalgic food for me, not like something unbelievably delicious. So I don’t really want to pay a huge amount of money for having it shipped to me.

I recommend the Wendella tour, especially if you can get John as the tour guide. He’s very colorful and did a splendid job when I took their river/lake cruise in April.
