Advice

I’m a 20 year old who has never been outside 25 miles of the lower 48 United States. I got accepted to go to a study-abroad trip the fall semester (about 4 months) to Shanghai, China, and I’m quite excited. So, if there is someone who can give me advice on things, I’d appreciate it. Specifically:

  1. What should I do during the week-long holiday around October 1st?

  2. Are there any sights I should definately not miss?

  3. What should I pack?

  4. What should I do in Shanghai during the weekends?

  5. Where should I eat?

…and so on and so forth. Even though I don’t leave until September, I’m trying to get suggestions before I have to register.

  1. Take a very good camera and LOTS of film with you. If you can, bring along a good Camcoder too

  2. Start a journal. When you get the pictures developed and placed in a photo album, be sure to place little notes under each photo one explaining the purpose of it

  3. Don’t spend too miuck time in one place. Remember, this may be a once in a lifetime trip, so try and get out and see as much as time will allow

  4. Don’t be afraid to try diferent things (foods, clothing, ect) try and learn as much about your host as possible

  5. Be vocal. Try and meet as many people as you can. You can learn where a lot of fun places are if you ask around. Remember, a closed mouth never gets fed

  6. Most of all, try and keep an open mind. Instead of trying to do everything the “American way”, try to adapt to your surroundings and in general, “just have fun” Time will fly, but you will have memoris that will last a lifetime

  7. Oh, I almost forgot, don’t forget to get souveniers (of that was spelled right). They will always serve as a reminder of all the fun you had and may even inspire you to go back some day…Haev fun, enjoy, and don’t forget to check back with us to tell us how things went.
