Aesiron was in a little accident this morning.

Woo!

I only got $15 so far. :smack: At this rate, I can be out there in a month or so. :frowning:

Does the hospital offer any after-care specialists that might be able to help him?

That’s great to hear!

Thanks for the update.

I just talked to him, and he sounds really tired and really bored. I hope he gets out of the hospital soon!

Robin

Actually (I forgot to mention this in my prior post), it sounds like they’re talking about putting him in some kind of a convalescent hospital, which he sounds incredibly unenthusiastic about (not that I blame him a bit). The doctor said it may take up to six weeks for him to recover, so miserable as it might be, it still might be the best thing for him. I don’t know. He’s still got a long tough row to hoe ahead of him.

Yep, that’s often where they do rehab these days. They will have physical therapy and so forth there. I hope it isn’t a full six weeks though. Maybe two or three—fingers crossed!
I sent a card to his home—I assume that his mail is being picked up. I didn’t want to send anything to the hospital because of all the moving around.

This all really sucks, poor Aesiron. I broke a leg a while back, if Aesiron has any practical questions --like about getting around on crutches – pass them on and I’ll try to answer. The single thing I wish I had known – it’s easier getting around outdoors than in because there’s more space to manoevre in.

Wow. :frowning: That’s a really long time.

Sure would have been a nice vacation for me, though! Tell Bert we’ll miss him here.

I was worried for a moment with the ICU. I am very glad he is out of there.

Robert, relax, take it easy and don’t get into any one legged ass kicking contests.

Joan

Thank goodness he’s out of ICU! Maybe he can hire a laptop for the six-week convalescent period so that we may entertain him and have the time go by swiftly

(I know I’ve certainly lost entire days to this board on occasion, so it’s not a bad entertainment option!)

Just happen to pop by and this thread got my attention. Sorry about your broken leg Aesiron. Glad to hear you’ll be getting out of the hospital. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

My best wishes to Robert.

Gr8Kat, is he the same Aesiron who posts at www.TrekBBS.com? If so, his friends there would be concerned, and ready to wish him the best.

Dave

I agree with you, Khiadra. He’s going to be in serious message board withdrawal otherwise. Plus, seeing how everyone is wishing him well has got to be good for the morale. Maybe someone from nearby has a laptop he/she could lend him? Just a thought.

Take care, Aesiron, and come back soon.

The only other board he’s mentioned to me is ezBoards and someone from there already contacted me after finding this thread.

We visited aes again tonight. He said the doctor thinks he’ll be released tomorrow. We don’t know yet for sure if he’s going home or to a convalescent hospital, but he thinks he’s going home. However, he’s very concerned about his complete inability to shop, do laundry, etc., while he’s recuperating.

While we were visiting, though, the guy who hit him dropped by. He said he’d talked to his insurance agent, and she’d assured him that everything should be covered, but aes needs to call her tomorrow and talk to her himself. So we’re all keeping our fingers crossed that she’ll have some super good news, like that home health care would be covered, too.

In the meantime, he really wishes there was some way his mother could come out to help, too. Kallessa suggested above that maybe there was some way we Dopers could help finance some way for her to come out. Would anyone else be interested in helping? Does anyone have any ideas?

Ugh. I’m up to about $40, but there is no way I know enough people (generous or not, I just don’t know that many people) to get even close to enough in a timely manner, and so far I’ve only thought as far as “gas money”, even though I know there’s more to it than that. I tried. :frowning:

All kinds of good luck and whatnot, hoping this guy’s insurance will be able to help Robert out.

It looks like Robert will be released today and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, will be coming to stay with me and Joel. Evidently, insurance won’t pay for in-home care, so his only other option would be a convalescent hospital, and frankly I don’t blame him a bit for not wanting to go there.

However, this means Joel will have two cripples to take care of when he comes home from work. But maybe we’ll be able to figure something out. Maybe my MIL can come spend the day with us and help out (cries a little bit inside).

Thank you again for all your kind thoughts and well-wishes. If you have any advice or help to offer, I’d appreciate it! Thanks!
