Aesiron was in a little accident this morning.

Damn not getting email notices about new posts. I just found out!
[ul][li]He needs a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt; just not one with Shatner or Bakula on it or someone will try to run over him again.[]Yes, he needs a Giant Microbe - perhaps Sleeping Sickness or the Kissing Disease.[]Also, I hope you get UPN in your room.[/ul]Get well soon, we miss your repartee.[/li]
Someone needs to create a Virtual Cast Signing Thread; though this pretty well qualifies.

Robert is in the ICU. The nurse we talked to said they were worried because he was breathless and logy. She told us that sometimes when you break a long bone that fatty tissue (from the bone? I admit I don’t understand everything they told us) can be released into the system and work its way into the lungs causing a pulmonary embolism. They fear something like this may have happened to him, though she said it’s hard to test for it (?) so they’re just going to treat him as though that’s the problem.

They weren’t going to let us in at first since we’re not family, but he explained that we’re the closest he has in Oregon, so we got to see him. Even so, it was just before a shift change and they wouldn’t let us stay more than a few minutes.

I have no idea how long he’s going to be in the ICU. His current room number is 3124. If you have the phone number to his old room, please disregard it, he’s not there anymore (obviously).

That is NOT good news. Please keep us updated and we’ll send good thoughts.

Gr8Kat, I hope he gets out of ICU soon. More prayers and good thoughts going his way.

If I could, I’d drive out there in a second, Kat. Not sure how much good that’d do until Robert gets home again… Tell him about my offer, tell him I’m serious. If that’s something he’d want to do, I can start begging money off various friends and/or relatives to fund the drive, but he’s definitely going to need some help when he gets well enough to go home.

Send him my best wishes (again). :frowning:

That’s an extremely sweet and generous offer! I will let Robert know when we see him tomorrow.

Not good news at all. Please tell him we’re pulling for him, Kat. I’m going to be fretting until you give us another (positive) update. Damn, I hate feeling so useless. Good on you, Silver. You have a good heart.

Oooh, not good. I’ll be sending more prayers, positive vibes and anything else that comes to mind, his way!

Oh no! Aesiron, I’m so sorry for you! Here’s to a full and lasting recovery.

And Gr8Kat, thanks for keeping us updated.

Crap, that’s not good news at all. All the best on him for a speedy recovery, a PE is no joke. Keep us updated as often as you can Gr8Kat my card is winging it’s way as we speak.

What happens is that, as you age, some of the marrow is replaced with fat. When you break a bone, you can release some of this fat, where it travels and wreaks havoc. There is a scan that can be done to look for PE, but it’s not a 100% certain thing, and it’s much easier for all concerned to just go ahead and treat for PE.

Robin

Oh, and can Robert have phone calls in the ICU?

Robin

I hope you feel better, Robert. We’re all pulling for you.

I’m not sure, but while we were there, his step-father called and the nurse first demanded to know how he got that number, then continued to do all the talking and didn’t give Robert the phone, so I’m guessing not.

Good luck to you, Robert. I enjoyed meeting you at the Great NW Dopefest, and I like reading your posts.

Thanks for keeping us posted, Gr8Kat.
Good luck and love to you.

As someone who has lived far from relatives and wondered who could take care of me if I ever broke my leg, I wonder if Aesiron’s mother would like to come to help out once he’s out of the hospital? And on that train of thought comes–“but can she afford it?”

If she can’t and it is something that would help, could we help finance it? I’m not sure how raising money on the SDMB works (and Mods, please just delete this if I’m out of line), but I know it’s been done. I can float a loan to pay for a plane ticket (as long as it’s not too astronomical) if I know I can get it back fairly soon (and I don’t want Aesiron or anyone else in my debt). Anyone know if this is do-able?

Surely that would be a reasonable expense to put on the insurance claim? It would be cheaper than a full-time nurse.

Here’s wishing Aesiron all the best for a speedy recovery.

Problem is, insurance won’t pay for a relative to care for another relative (too much room for fraud), but I dunno about a plane ticket.

Robin

Robert’s out of ICU! He’s in room 6607. He’s breathing a lot better, and he says they told him that problem usually takes just a couple days to get over. And over it appears to be. So he said the doctor told him there’s a chance he’ll be out tomorrow; two days at the latest. He’s doing all right, just very bored and eager to come home.

Good deal!
