… no matter what you might say about his domestic heavy-handedness. Lenin, 40+ years before Ike and without the benefit of Ike’s hindsight on (and singular involvement in) WWII along with the obvious results of that war in turning our large domestic producers into weapons manufacturers, he nails the root of Ike’s Military-Industrial Complex.
Yes, the horror that nations should cooperate with foreign nations and form binding commercial ties. That might encourage peace. Much better than that is to operate on your own and eschew all possibilities of commerce arising on its own. Instead, one must control all commercial endeavors centrally and slay everyone who is too lazy to work or who holds opposing ideas, and to encourage and finance other nations to do the same.
Mass murder over Peace and Commerce! Viva la Revolution my brothers!
Ike warned about future developments sprung from the current situation in his own country, Lenin’s screed against capitalism is as spot on as Nostradamus prophecies.
Jeeez. Please no more about Leninism. I’m not a Leninist and I’m not into armed revolution or killing millions of indigenous folks in the process. That’s today’s corporate policy, if you haven’t noticed, not to mention our own thru the years.
I am saying that his analysis of global corporate capitalism/imperialism is spot on. You find something specific in my cite you’d like to dispute, let me know. Otherwise, check it at the door.
This is why the standard of living has been going down all around the world. We live shorter lives than before and have less creature comforts. Meanwhile the number of people killed in international war is at an all time high. Unlike Lenin’s time the borders of countries are changing constantly. It’s a real mess I tell you.
As I have often pointed out on the SDMB, Germany & France have always enjoyed the closest commercial relationships, & see how well that worked out for them!
Hitler was a moron. The US is a generally peaceful nation and yet under Bush II we took over two foreign countries. Blaming the act of an idiot on the local economics is rather short-sighted.
Humans are still humans no matter what. The question is what works better, since you’re probably never going to find the perfect solution.
Hitler was a capitalist hack hired to drive the Jews (many Socialist leaning) out of Europe. IBM provided the automated card readers that made Hitler so efficient is his appointed task. The US is an overtly peaceful nation except when it’s not.
Hitler was able to rearm with the help of Western corporations and the connivance of the post-Lenin USSR. Prescott Bush was Hitler’s US banker. IBM, mentioned above. Ford successfully sued the US govt for the allied inflicted damages to it’s truck factory in Vichy France. Cites? Use your own google-fu and dispel your own ignorance.
