Can anyone tell me what the Affordable Care Act considers to be a household? When I see references to household income, does that refer to everyone that happens to live in the same house? Our adult son, who lives with, us has an income that would be considered to be below the poverty line. He is too old to be covered by the health plan provided by my employer. Until I saw references to household income, I had assumed that he would be eligible for subsidized health care. Is he considered to be his own “household”? Or, is he SOL? Does anyone have a cite for this?
ACA use the IRS definition:
To me that means if your son is not your dependent on your federal tax return, he doesn’t qualify under your household. He has to qualify on his own.
