I’ve heard it. It’s okay, I suppose. It’s just a straightforward rock cover. Nothing particularly interesting or special about it, and I far prefer the original. AFI’s version to me sounds like uninspired “paint-by-numbers” hard rock lacking emotional depth.
I heard it Friday on XM. Passed over it since I had never heard of AFI, but when I realized the tune was NIN I went back. I didn’t care for it much since they didn’t do anything to make it theirs. They sounded more like a NIN tribute band or something. Didn’t hear any reason why they needed to cover a song if they aren’t going to mix it up a little.
I think Max hit the head on the nail…the cover didn’t really reinvent the song at all and the only reason people will like it is because the song they covered is a good song. It seems they could have done so much more.
Yeah… Well it should be enjoyable to listen to atleast. Instead of a knife through my eardrums everytime I begin to hear the slaughtering of such a great a song.
Anyone know if it will be released as a single…? Or maybe up for download .
AFI seems a bit, I guess lost to me lately. They’ve made the transition from straight up punk band (my personal favorite era) to whatever you would call what they do now, Goth rock or something. I know the last record spawned a few hit singles, but they’re really reaching to find a comfortable niche. The song Death of Seasons even had a techno breakdown, which is always a bad sign. Now with the cover of Head Like A Hole, I’m afraid they’re signaling another style change to something more akin to NIN.
