After Dark Horrorfest 2007 - anyone see these movies yet?

If you did, were this year’s movies better than the year’s before?

Of the 2006 movies I haven’t seen all of Reincarnation or The Abandoned (the latter I’m saving for last because it has the best reputation) but I’ve seen all the rest. On a whole they were pretty disappointing. The Gravedancers, Unrest and The Hamilitons were adequate, but Wicked Little Things, Dark Ride and The Tripper were barely watchable. And Penny Dreadful was both poorly acted and pointless.

Over all there was nothing terribly shocking or good about the movies I did see, and I’m not sure why this bunch was deemed too intense for wide theatrical release - they were like a lot of other R-rated horror movies.

Am I being completely naive to think that some of the new batch could be as good as their trailers make them out to be? The Deaths of Ian Stone and Crazy Eights both look like I’d really like them. Did anyone see either of them? We you pleased or disappointed? Like any of the others?

Okay, guess no one’s seen them… so is anyone else at all interested in the movies?

The Tripper is one of my picks for the best DVD releases of 2007, but I haven’t seen the others. I’ve had The Abandoned at home for like a month, but it just looks so bad. Will probly get to it eventually.

I went to the 2006 fest, and only missed The Hamiltons and Wicked Little Things, but I caught 'em later on DVD. Too bad, because WLT was a serious yawn. Reincarnation had a very strong ending, but the build-up was really, really slow. I did like The Abandoned a lot, mostly for the atmosphere; being in a big dark theater helped.

The 2007 movies didn’t come to my town, sadly, so I didn’t get to spend three whole days at the movies. Alas! But, I’m interested in seeing the whole crop of 'em. When does the 2007 batch hit DVD?

It took some poking around, but I got the release dates for the two I want to see - March 18th. If I’m remembering correctly, all of 2006’s films (except The Abandoned which went to theaters for real) came out the same day last year, so I’d bet the rest also come out March 18th.
