Y’know, Miller, that sounds really cool (honestly, not in the sarcastic sense!). I’d just have a couple of suggestions: First, the Vulcans haven’t completely abandoned their logic. They’re teetering on the brink between logic and berserkery. Usually, they’re the good old Spock (lack of) personality, but the berserker is always just this far below the surface, waiting for an excuse. And remember, Vulcans have telepathic capabilities, and when their emotions break loose, they tend to bleed over into those surrounding them.
Second, while I like the idea of meeting up with the Enterprise, it sort of splits the plot. After that, which crew do you follow? The good-old-days ship from the past, or the Enterprise? About the only way it could work in a TV show is if the Enterprise crew martyrs themselves and their vessel (maybe with a few survivors transferring over to the other ship) in the second episode after they’re introduced, and I’d hate to see that happen.
Seriou Suggestion- An antholoigy series detailing important events in Trek history, showing different pov’s of events we’ve seen etc.
Examples-
Vulcans before logic
Ferengi before profit (according to the Prophets there was a time when the Ferengi weren’t greedy)
Borg back when they were an organic species and why and how they became the way they are now.
The founding of Section 31
The story of a member of the Bajoran resistance
The complete story of one of the other ships at Wolf 369
What ever the heck TinMan/Gantu is up to now
The adventures of that red, yellow and blue thingy that the Enterpise D made when it gained consciousness
If any character or storyline proves popular enough, they could spin it off into its own series.
Suggestions for shows that, sadly, will never be made-
– 7 of 9 doesn’t understand how a human with as many problems as Reginald Barcley can achieve so much. She begins sessions with Deanna Troi in attempt to understand the human mind. One thing leads to another and they begin exploring eachother’s minds-then eachother’s bodies.
“So, Deanna what is 7 feeling?”
“My left thigh. And she’s doing a great job of it.”
– Q gets his own series. He travels the universe annoying the hell out of people. As a sort of bizzaro Dr Who, Q comes to idyllic places causes massive chaos and death, then leaves.
“Please, Q! The war seems like it will never end! Our leaders are corrupt maniacs who kill us for their bizzare experiments! And a new plague has broken out!”
“Yes, my work is done here.”
–Raisa Force. The adventures of a group of lifeguards on the tourist planet.
“I don’t understand what happened to him. I’ve give mouth-to-mouth-recesitation to plenty of people and no one’s ever reacted like that.”
“That was not his mouth. Not everyone keeps their genitals in the same place.”
Miller
Not a bad idea, but it sounds pretty close to Andromeda to me, what with the “sentient ship from the past trying to restore peace and prosperity to a once proud and peaceful galactic federation that has been torn apart by war”. Still better than anything I can come up with, though. Not to mention the fact that this plot would work better in the Star Trek universe. And, oh yeah, Andromeda blows.

Exactly what I was getting ready to suggest…an anthology series. Kudos.
SPOOFE, that would never make it past the first season. Forcing viewers to watch Wesley Crusher yell “yipee!” and race around the desert in a craft of his own design would kill the show dead.
(Inside Joke which nobody will get if I’m wrong on where Psyhco Pirates name came from)-
You’re just trying to manipulate my emotions aren’t you? I don’t know why they let you out of that asylum. You’re not going to start babbling about how there used to be “alternate SDMB’s” again are you? I’m sick of you ranting about some Ant-Moderator from an anti-SDMB.
I have a question why do we have to focu the story in the federation? How about the next one focus on the romulans or the klingons.
In fact the story can be placed after the destruction of praxis and the consequent convulsions of the klingon empire. In that way will be able to see what I love of Star Trek, battle after battle.
I thought a series of TV movies would be cool back when DS9 was ending, each focusing on different stories, like the Anthology proposal. And they’d have the added bonus of guest stars from the shows popping up in cameos, and could just timewise from the 22nd century to the 24th.
Psycho Pirate is DC villain with the power to manipulate emotions. DC had a bunch of alternate earths. They got rid of them during a big thing called Crisis On The Infinite Earths. Almost nobody remembered that these worlds had existed. Psycho Pirate did. Various things that happened during Crisis drove him insane. So his ranting about other earths is ignored.
Zero Hour may have changed whether Psycho Pirate rembembers at all, or if others now remember the alternate earths.
Chronos: Thanks! My idea about bringing in the Enterprise was that they just find the ship: no crew at all. It’s been missing for thirty or forty years, ever since Data realized the direction the Federation was heading in, single-handedly hijacked the new flagship (wouldn’t be the first time), and hid it in a nebula. I figure sometime around the end of season two, the original ship gets destroyed and the cast transfers over to the newly recovered Enterprise.
I’d like to see an anthology series too, if only to explain why the Klingons’ appearance changed so radically from TOS to ST:TMP and why Kirk & Co. never seemed to notice.
Ah, yes, Crisis. I’m a Marvel Man myself (or at least was before the Horror of the Scarlett Spider!!), so this DC continuity both scares and confuese me. I remember one of the DCers on this boards explaining what went on in a different thread a few months ago, so i have a basic knowledge of the Crisis storyline and some of the Earths.
No, that is a plot event that must never, ever, happen. The ST writers screwed up, and lets leave it at that. Please.
As to Miller’s suggestion, it does sound quite good. However, it gives me a very big Andromeda vibe. Andromeda sucked, please don’t let ST go that way.
Ok, ST sucks for the most part too. I liked voyager for a very short period near the bginnning, about half of DS9 and enterprise so far. I used to like TNG (I was young and foolish). But an Andromeda/Star Trek combo? ::shudder:: No thank you.
I still like the basic premise, but please. No time travelling star ships from the golden age of the federation.
An anthology is a great idea. I’d say 5 episodes per event. I would really like to know where the Borg came from. Miller’s idea is good but has a Andromeda vibe to it. And thats not good at all. Maybe they’ll just find the Enterprise and update their own ship with the computer, warp core, weapons etc. The re-name it the Enterprise-G or whatever letter they are on. And maybe this special warp drive they have is better than the futures warp drive in some way? Plus, because of them disapearing with the only prototype engine Starfleet never further developed it and thus they have a advantage over other ships. Like being able to outrun them or not be shot at during warp by other ships.
I’d like to see a series showing Kirk just as he’s graduating from the academy, and follow his early career. If I remember the trek timelines and how old they live, you could get walk-ons of the Next Generation cast as old people, much as the original Trek cast guest-starred on various episodes of NG.
Or here’s an idea: “Chekov and Sulu” - spacegoing crimefighters who fly in their signature matching starships. Each week, Admiral Uhura (whom you never see - just hear the voice) sends them on a new mission. Along the way, there will be hijinks, competitions, and maybe even the occasional Starship stunt™. It’s must-see TV. Don’t miss it!
You’re not being imaginative enough here, except for that guy who wrote about Star Trek: The Sentient, Carnivorous Camel Generation, which was absolutely inspired. OK, try this: Star Trek: What-eveeeer!. The idea is that the Starship Rip Curl is manned almost exclusively by a crew of teenage Starfleet cadets with a full complement of what they call “issues” in Dawson’s Creek. Obviously, their Captain is a proper grown up who is permanently driven close to tears by his immature, whining and self-righteous crew. Some sample characters:
Mr Durok, the Vulcan teenager. He thinks that he is superior to everyone else, puts his lack of success with the ladies down to their idiocy and keeps saying “That is, like, soooooo illogical!”.
Mr Smakh, the Klingon teen. He is unhappy with his physical persona, and because of this is permanently experimenting with ever more ridiculous hairstyles and heavy-metal type clothing. This insecurity also manifests itself as aggressive paranoia, as he is in fact aware that he looks ridiculous, and every time that anyone looks at him or giggles he picks a fight. I should also mention that he listens to Klingon rock really loud in his cabin, which doesn’t make him any friends.
Mr Carraway has an ongoing problem with being referred to as “Mister” as she is a girl. However one annoyed teenager spouting crypto-feminist self-righteous crap cannot compensate for centuries of tradition. If she stopped being militant about this sort of trivial nonsense for five minutes, then maybe the dilithium crytals would be permanently misaligned through her negligence. She’s also pissing everyone off quite badly by constantly trying to make them all sign a petition in favour of gay rights in Starfleet, whereas there is in fact no homophobia to complain about. Also, no-one on the ship is gay, as it would appear that they have learned how to cure this in the 24th century. Mr Carraway secretly lusts after Mr Durok, but she won’t admit this because he’s so uncool.
Feel free to develop this. I think it has potential. Maybe someone would care to offer a profile of the Captain. Oh, and a plot would be useful too.
