After Series X ended, do you think the characters remained friends?

The Yorktown, but that’s not canon.

I assumed that at some point, nearly every Star Trek character would eventually be killed in a transporter accident, holodeck mishap or Galaxy class starship warp drive explosion.

I think that’s right. BJ was the kind of guy who would always keep trying to help, just like he did with that Korean family that he started helping, even though he knew it was just drops in a bucket with a hole in it.

Which when you think about it, would make things even sadder. BJ was a family man living in California. Hawkeye was from Main. That he would cross the country, disrupt, and perhaps even ruin his family life to take care of the sad wreck of a man that Hawkeye turned into, makes the whole thing even more tragic.

What you’re neglecting to notice is the professional challenges in Hawkeye’s field. The 50s and 60s were fantastic for the growth in what chest-cutters could do to help people. That alone, the potential to save people, could really have pulled Hawkeye out.

Alan Alda appeared on ER a few years ago as an older doctor suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. He was presented as Kerry Weaver’s mentor and supposedly a pioneer in emergency medicine. The timing isn’t quite right, but basically I imagine this character as the older Hawkeye Pierce. It’s easy to imagine that he returned to the US and used his army experience to improve emergency medicine in the US. So that might have helped him to heal.

I like to image that Greg House is a relative of Hawkeye Pierce.

I image that when people leave the hospital, they give up and trying to get House to stay in touch, but they stay in touch with his current people to hear the latest House story.

And Frasier moved to Chicago to go back into practice in the last episode of his show. (I thought it would’ve been a nice touch if the last scene of show revealed that his partner would be a certain stammering shrink who returned to Chicago after teaching in Oregon for a few years and is now turning his practice over to Frasier as he eases into retirement–perhaps to fulfill his dream of running an inn somewhere in New England.;))

As for the others except Diane, I see the bar as remaining the center of their activities. Diane writes a few unproduced plays and screenplays and rejected novels before ending up teaching creative writing in some small college.

Boys Don’t Cry

Not quite. Frasier took the TV job in San Fransisco. He went to Chicago to visit the last in his long string of Seattle girlfriends (the matchmaker played by Laura Linney.)

Although it would have been nice to see him team up with Bob Hartley, who was last seen on ER contemplating suicide because he was losing his sight to macular degeneration.

For some reason, this thread is making me very sad. Until it had been brought up, I guess I assumed that nothing would change past the end of my favorite series.

I think some things remain pretty much the same. The earlier remarks about Gilmore girls were pretty much on target. I think the Cheers gang (minus Frasier) remains friends until Carla starts murdering them in rage. And I’m morally certain that Arthur Fonzarelli remained close to Mr. & Mrs. C. even after Howard realized that the reason Marian always treated Fonzie as a son was because he WAS her son, conceived, born, & given up for adoption while he was in the Army.

Hell, just getting home would help him, presuming he was prevented from falling into a bottle. A few operations where the person wasn’t full of bullets and shell fragments and a few family dinners with his father, and he’d have regained some of his faith in humanity. Throw in those leaps in medicine, contact with the few positive things about his time in Korea - IE, the people from the 4077* - and a girl or two, and Hawk’d be back to being a human being in a couple years. Possibly a teetotaller, since I can see drinking bringing up the dark place.

  • Not just BJ - I can see whichever went to visit the other making a stopover in Ohio to pick up Radar and Ho-Jon, for instance. Or Hawk introducing BJ to Trapper. A full 4077 reunion doesn’t seem unlikely either - Potter inviting Hawk, BJ, Margaret, Charles, Radar, and Klinger and their respective SOs and kids, down to Hannibal a few years after the war. (Probably not Frank, though.) Probably even relaying an invite to Trap.
