I recently bought a new-to-me car in which a previous owner had installed a Black Widow security system.
I called the company’s technical support and the person I talked to was able to identify what system it is, based on the remote. All of Black Widow’s manuals are online – except that one. I’ve tried repeatedly to get them to e-mail me the PDF with no success.
I had a couple of extra keys made (the key for the model car I have does not have a security chip in it), but I’m loathe to use them to get into the car because I’m afraid they will trigger the security system, which I don’t know how to turn off, because I have no manual. Is this a legit concern or am I worrying about something that won’t be a problem?
The car came with a factory security system. Would it be possible to have the aftermarket system taken out and go back to the built-in system?
What is your objective?
Is the security system functional?
Which Black Widow device manual are you looking for?
What did your local Black Widow dealer say?
What did your local vehicle dealership say?
Have you looked at the other manuals to see if the other systems all behave the same way, or if some look similar to yours? Maybe you could work out how to turn it on and off (assuming there’s some kind of indicator, like a blinking light).
My objective is to be able to get in and out of my car using either the remote or the key, without worrying about triggering the security system, which I don’t feel I need. I don’t live in a high crime area. I’m pretty confident that locking the car is going to provide me with sufficient security.
If there is a local Black Widow dealer, extensive Googling hasn’t turned one up. There is no dealer “finder” on the Black Widow web site. The system is the BW 2900. I haven’t called a local dealership yet. (The closest dealers are not that close to me.)
I have looked at the manual for the 2800. Part of my problem is that several of the functions, such as programming additional remotes, call for pushing the “valet” button, which, according to the web site, could be installed in any number of places. I’ve checked what the web site suggests are the most likely locations a dealer might have installed said switch but can’t find anything.
So you wish to remove the security system, right? But it does work properly at this time? I think you’ll need to take it to an alarm shop. If the thing is working they should be able to disarm it and permanently disable in an hour or less. There isn’t any need to actually remove the components from the vehicle.
That’s not my remote. If you go here, my remote is the one on the top right, with the stubby little antenna. When I called Black Widow, the technician I talked to asked me to identify my remote from that page, and based on that he said I had the BW2900 system.
Does the system work properly? It does lock and unlock the doors. I have no idea about the other functions, like the shock sensor and the tamper alert.
Ultimately, I’m interested in which ever is cheaper. If I can figure out where the danged valet switch is, I can get additional remotes. Or I could have the system disabled. Going that route, I’d be looking at two Kia remotes plus whatever is necessary (if anything) to revert to the factory system.
