Kenya is agin the subject of terrorist attacks, for those who don’t know an Israeli airliner was targeted by missiles and a hotel owned by an Israeli was bombed by three suicide terrorists, 11 dead over 80 injured.
Could it be osama? I have doubts I reckon it’s Hezbollah.
Lest anyone panicks any more than necessary: the plane made it to Tel Aviv safe and sound.
Christ knows. Though the location, method of the bombing, and sophistication of the equipment sounds like al Qaeda or an affiliate to me.
Man, that’s fucking terrible - why bother trying to circumvent airport security when you can just shoot missiles at passenger planes?
Shit.
Well, if it’s al Queda, where did they get the missiles from???
Possibly the United States - the U.S. supplied Afghan rebels with Stinger missiles back in the 80s for plugging Soviet aircraft. Would a Stinger still be good to fire after 14-15 years?
Or, you could probably buy SA-7 or SA-14 missiles from the former Soviet republics (the Russian versions of the Stinger) if you knew the right people. And there are many other types of portable SAMs around the world.
A shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile isn’t any bigger than a WWII bazooka, and there’s ways to buy them if you have the cash and the connections.
Christ. Missiles at planes? These guys just keep changing don’t they. How are we ever going to rid ourselves of these maniacs?
Well, they DID miss the plane. I have no idea how hard it is to hit a plane that zips by at 300 km/h (take-off speed), but I’m assuming if it’s Al Queda, that they would field someone who was a good shot, so to speak.
Of course, whatever the reason, I’m awfully glad the plane was unharmed.
Aw, bloody hell.
I just caught up on this situation on the BBC. Now, there has been a shooting in Israel proper.
3 Gunmen assaulted the Likud Party polling station in Jerusalem. This is, of course, the day that the Likud decides between the “moderate,” Ariel Sharon, and the right-winger Binyamin Netanyahu.
The Beeb is reporting that both countries of the original attack, Kenya and Israel, are pointing the finger at Al Qaeda.
Islam is, on the whole, a religion of peace, but the entire Islamic world really needs to get its house in order. The rest of the world is completely sick of all of these murderers killing folks without reason.
Every time something such as this happens, I think “Maybe Pax Americana isn’t such a bad idea, after all.”
:(:(:(:(:(
I hope these incidents are unconnected.
Sharon, moderate? snort
How come Islam has such ‘bloody borders?’
Chechnya, Bosnia, Palestine, afghanistan, Malasyia, Indonesia, the Phillipine Islands, Sudan, Nigeria, should I go on?
There is a serious problem with these fundamentalists. How many are there estimated to be? Does the Religion need a change of some sort?
Are Israelis safe anywhere???
The death count has now risen to 14.
For all the military action over the past year nothing seems to stop attacks in either Israel by the Palestinian terrorists or the rest of the World from The remaining animals. Sure there have been respites but in the end they have not stopped just waited for another opertunity.
There has to be a better way to deal with this.
There just has to.
I don’t think an army can do it an army is only good when there is another army willing to stand up to it and fight.
This seems to be a failure of imagination on the part of our leaders.
It’s a war for ideology, as usual then?
I am thinking that God/Allah is going to have to get off his lazy ass and make a trip down to earth and clarify the “don’t kill rule”.

kingpengvin, I saw General Romeo Dallaire [ret] give a seminar last night and part of his speech was exactly that point. From what I gather, his opinion is instead of treating these as acts of war, then going in and beating the hell out of another nation, they should be treated as crimes and the perpetrators hunted down and tried like normal criminals. Even if it takes 20 or 40 years to convict these people this will be a lot more effective and breed less new radicals.
Our job (for example) is to make the lives of the Palestinians better while hunting down the criminals in their midst, not punish everyone for their actions.
Not saying this is easy, it will take a great deal of creativity.
Sooner or later, the world is going to lose patience with the Islamic fundamentialists. The US already has. I just hope the rest of the world doesn’t extend that to all Muslims.
Glad the plane escaped, though.
Found out it was ‘army of Palestine’ now.
Judging by the image of the launcher on the BBC news page, I’d say it was an ex-Soviet SA-14 ‘Gremlin’.
