Agatha Fry, she made a pie

and Christopher John helped bake it.

Christopher John, he mowed the lawn.
And Agatha Fry helped rake it.

Agatha Fry, she told a lie.
And Christopher John, helped fake it.

Now, Zachary Zugg took out the rug
and Jennifer Joy helped shake it

And Jennifer Joy, she made a toy
And Zachary Zugg helped break it.

Cuz some kind of help is the kind of help
That helping’s all about

And some kind of help is the kind of help
That we can all do without.

“Helping” (1972)
Lyric by Shel Silverstein
From the album Free to Be…You and Me
Used without permission. Moderators, do your worst.

I love you guys.

Anyone up for Don’t Dress Your Cat in an Apron?

(I love being a parent and getting to revisit this stuff with my daughter. Listening to this on the huge cabinet turntable when I was six, how could I have imagined I’d be playing it for my kid on an MP3 player the size of a lighter someday?)

Hmm, I hadn’t considered the point raised by Beware of Doug. Is it illegal if no single person posted the entire work? If so, I apologize for setting off the chain reaction.

Still, thanks for confirming I’m not the only one with these songs in my head, folks!

You can get the original TV show on DVD as well as the songs and bits on CD. I’ve got a copy, which I dusted off during the Michael Jackson trial for the amusement/shock of my friends.

I’ve got a copy of the book, too.

My favorite has got to be “My Dog Is A Plumber.” Although I like “When We Grow Up” too.

And “Ladies First!”

OK, I’ll stop now.

(I still have my original LP.)

Egad I love that album!!!

I used to play it every day and sing and dance around.

sigh

Hmm. That would imply that posting a big hit everyone knows is less illegal than posting some obscure old flop song only I know. (Which is exactly what I got modded for awhile back.)
