Here in the UK, we are running quite a few episodes behind the US in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D - the most recent episode (broadcast last night) is “Afterlife”. I’ve been following along with the threads as the episodes air here, but avoiding those for future episodes.
With Age of Ultron now out, I’m looking for some spoiler-free advice - are any crossovers worth delaying seeing the movie for? OBVIOUSLY I want to see AoU as soon as possible, but if for some reason it is important to see the TV episode first, I’d consider waiting. I don’t know how long cinemas show movies for these days, though - I think we’re a good five or so weeks behind.
So I’m after advice from people who have seen both - worth the wait, or go see Ultron now?
The episode that aired this week (The Dirty Half-Dozen) in the states point straight to Ultron. No spoilers in the eps for the movie beyond what’s in the trailer and the Winter Soldier half-credits scene.
I saw the film without even knowing there would be a lead in on the TV Show. I’ve now seen the lead in and frankly it is tiny and inconsequential. It is just a minute or two and it explains why they are where they are in the film at the very beginning, which isn’t information that you really need to know.
Basically there is a little tag at the end of Agents of SHIELD that is vague and the opening of the movie is implied to be the result of the tag. It is all very light and subtle and easily missed and not a big deal. I posted the specifics in this week’s SHIELD thread.
Now, related is the question: should I delay viewing the last 3 episodes of SHIELD until after seeing Ultron (we have a sick kid at the moment so we won’t be going this weekend).
Though there is a character who was introduced in Agents of SHIELD who appears in Ultron too. For no good reason that I can tell except as a bit of fan service to SHIELD watchers.
If you mean should you delay watching the remaining episodes of SHIELD until you see the movie, that is hard for anyone to answer yet since they haven’t aired. If the past is any precedent, the episode of SHIELD that was post CA:Winter Solider did indeed spoil some things even if indirectly but that movie directly effected SHIELD (the agency) so they really had no choice.
Also, Agents of SHIELD spent significant time during the lead-up to CA:WS telling the viewer that the movie and series intertwined. They have not done that for A:AoU.
I don’t know, if I didn’t get an explanation of Inhumans from Agents of SHIELD I think I would have watched Age of Ultron thinking “Um, what possible experiments could Strucker have been performing that would have resulted in Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch???”
The mind gem being used in conjunction with biomedical experiments seemed to be enough explanation to work for the movie.
With the show…It seemed to me that Pietro and Wanda weren’t Inhumans but the experiments ON inhumans were used to “enhance” baseline humans.
