But now SHIELD is onto him, and he’ll have to start over with the lab and the mining. It’s still a major setback.
they’ve mentioned both already - or do you mean more ‘actively’ introduced?
There are other bad guy groups out there too. I wouldn’t mind seeing some other villainous organization come in.
Oooh, or how about the Hand? Night of a Million Zillion Ninjas!
Except he specifically states he worked dozens of mines all over the world to get the gravitonium and he needs Hall to be able to work with it safely. With nearly all the gravitonium (and Hall) safely locked away I can see this story line suspended for at least half a season.
Of course, we know Hall is going to break out and bad guy du jour is going to become either his victim or his partner, but I think our SHIELD agents have some things to do before that happens.
Or as I like to call him, the poor man’s Nathan Fillion.
Oh, man- me too. And since Tahmoh’s worked with Joss before…
The show really hasn’t quite clicked yet for me. I haven’t found a character that I like (besides Coulson, of course), although Melinda May has potential.
This just in- ABC has announced that SHIELD has been picked up for another season.
I would like to see Fitz-Simmons pulled back to secondary characters. I think their schtick would work better if we only saw them when Coulson or someone has to go down to a dungeon/crazy gizmo lab to get a specific gadget for a mission. Think Q in Bond movies. In which case they could just be a Tweedle Dee/Dum pair of super geniuses that gets a few short minutes an episode.
Frankly, I find Skye to be the turd in the punchbowl of this series. I’m not buying her in the role one bit. There are a dozen other, more interesting or quirky actresses out there that could deliver her lines and actually come across as a “hacker”. She’s cute and all, but she rings false to me. I say kill her off by the end of the season and bring in an actual Whedon alum. Is Jewel Staite working right now?
That said, I enjoy the show. I’ll keep watching. I was iffy about Arrow until about 5-6 episodes in, then I loved it, so I have hope that SHEILD will work out the kinks.
Did you catch him in the Supernatural premiere?
I like her just because she’s the only character wearing anything close to resembling an actual SHIELD uniform. I can understand the geeks and the hacker girl not wearing them, and Coulsen rocks the suits, but couldn’t loner mcwhatsisface wear something more like that?
Even though I’m lukewarm on the show, I think that’s good news. I really think given time it will find it’s legs, and now it won’t be cancelled before it has the chance.
Which made me so very, very glad I don’t know the Marvel Universe as well as I know DC’s, because right up to the end, I didn’t see the conclusion coming (however, once they showed the stuff getting locked up, I immediately guessed how that scene was going to go), so it was a nice surprise, whereas I would have know what was going to happen pretty much right away if I’d known Graviton was named Franklin Hall. (I immediately figured that out, and googled to confirm, once I saw, of course.)
Oh, come on. Nobody’s that smart. Either you could hire 20 “almost that smarts” to reconstruct, given the monetary potential, or you could hire 10 and put them on that guy’s published work.
All of which makes me think and wonder, which won’t be answered considering comic book idiocy (in that you have the biggest movie of all time and don’t put out books about those people in those continuity) is Tony Stark’s groundbreaking alternative energy stuff for everybody or just for Stark Industries?
I hadn’t thought of this before but I agree with you. Imagine whatshername–Faith–when she was younger doing the Skye role and imagine how much better it would have been.
How many more of those little gravitolis are in existence? Are there just two?
and yeah, we’ve definitely got one or two recurring characters out of this episode.
I don’t mind the Skye character. I think she could end up being ok.
The dress was just right for a comic book, and I lovedlovedloved the party goers being all dressed in grey.
Muscle memory, hm…
Eliza Dushku. Oh yes; she would’ve been great a few years ago.
It feels like the actress Chloe Bennet is an attempt at finding the next Olivia Munn - pan-racial, hot, but geeky-smart. She in no way comes across as geeky-smart. Team Whedon is typically known for great casting of attractive women who can also connect with the gravitas of the character, so I am hoping she’ll get a moment that puts her in a new light…
No, there’s going to be sexy shenanigans with FitzSimmons.
“Female biologist” implies “enjoys healthy active sex life”, and she’s good at that like she’s good at everything else she does. She doesn’t do guys she works with, so Fitz will be frustrated (whenever he notices he’s human).
She’ll use her feminine wiles to gain access to the bad guy ( the boobs joke forshadows this).
After getting thoroughly, realistically worked up with him, he’ll turn out to be a bad, bad man and she’ll need help from Fitz to rescue herself.
Bonding ensues.
Skye meanwhile, is more of a traditionalist, preferring a ‘dating’ style relationship.
She can’t date Spy guy, he’s her boss. And she did flirt with Simmons in the first episode.
So perhaps we’ll have her competing with Fitz to win the warm sweet affection they crave.
Spoiler: there will be a mattress joke.
That’s real world thinking, though. In comics, being a scientific genius is more like a superpower. Franklin Hall has the power to understand gravitonium, in the same way that Tony Stark has the power to understand how to build an Iron Man suit. The U.S. government can’t hire 20 “almost Tony Starks” and build their own Iron Man. (Although I guess they tried something like that in Iron Man 2 – but even then, it relied on finding another individual supergenius.)
I’m willing to meet Whedon at least half-way: he’s managed to create a lot of good young female characters. But I’m starting to wonder if Chloe Bennett was a miss. I’m still hoping she can turn it around but she’s just not winning me over. She’s cute and all but I feel she should be playing a high school student in a sitcom not a secret agent in an action thriller.
Agreed. She had a bit part in Nashville last season - she was a wannabe record company intern who was doing grunt work to break into the business. She was a passing love interest to one of the bigger characters, Gunnar. Nice to look at, nothing demanding acting-wise - seemed more her speed.
And come to think of it why would you use your incredibly rare prototypes to pull off your hijack, if you’re incredibly wealthy, rather than just hiring some mercenaries? And leave them in the road?
Remind me not to think about comic books. (It drives my husband batty.)
Errrr… I think she is excellent. Since that is exactly what she is, a civilian in waaay over her head.
FitzSimmon needs to be dumped.
