Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S01E22:Beginning of the End (open spoilers)

I sure hope not. They did the whole “betrayal by a companion” schtick this season. Next season needs a new hook.

As for funding, they’ve already set up contact with Stark Industries, and I’m sure they’ll get some at least unofficial governmental funding, especially after they saved most of the general officers shopping for super-soldiers. As Natasha noted at the end of CA:TWS - “You need us. You know where we are.”

One thing’s got me scratching my head about the possible Inhumans angle. To the best of my poor knowledge, they were introduced in the Fantastic Four comic, and have largely appeared only there (except for their own comic series here or there, and maybe a few cameos in other comics). Wouldn’t that mean they’d be tied up with the Fantastic Four movie rights? On the other hand, I don’t remember them being mentioned or listed when people talk about what is tied up with the FF: Skrulls, Galactus, maybe Namor, and others I can’t recall at the moment.

As for Wanda and Pietro, maybe they’ll just have them appear, and never actually allude to just what they are or how they can do what they can do. Mutants without the M word ever being said. But I think that would go against the grain of the usual presenting of superheroes/superpowered beings: usually they’re explained for the audience, to a lesser or greater degree.

As for this episode: satisfying to a large degree, at least for me. Wrapped up some things, showed some things that are still not wrapped up (Raina, the gravitonium), and planted the seeds for future storylines/plot threads. I’m on board for the next season.

Actually, to me it makes perfect sense. Ward has become so psychologically dependent on Garrett that he needs Garrett’s direction. When Garrett says, “Do what you want”, he’s throw adrift, because he hasn’t had a want that wasn’t Garrett’s in the last 15 years.

Look at the Lost Boys of the Sudan. They often saw their captors kill their family, where sometimes made to do it themselves. But they still bought into what they group was offering, because the group was all they had at that point.

The Inhumans are a reasonable guess. Their backstory is tied in with the Kree and the alien we saw was probably a Kree. The Inhuman base, Attilan, has been moved around but at one point it was located in the Himalayas, which would fit in with Skye’s Chinese origins.

And while I’m not suggesting Ward is an Inhuman, his inability to speak could be a winking reference to Black Bolt.

It was confirmed months ago that Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch will not be Inhumans.

When Garrett finally tells Ward to go after Skye, his response was “Thank you”. I thought that fit in with this exactly, he needed direction even if it was what he wanted to do. Garrett change scared him on multiple levels - not only was he acting pretty crazy but he was releasing Ward.

I’m thinking the cast of SHIELD will be organic in new seasons. New agents will be recruited and mentored by the current regulars. Some will die, some will break away, some will suddenly mutate into new kinds of alien-human hybrids and decide to slay mankind…

Coulson won’t be out on the field as much, but he’ll continue the Nick Fury tradition of appearing out of thin air when least expected. He’ll attribute any ominous overtones to bad hall lighting or somesuch. He’ll eventually understand why it’s necessary to keep secrets from his agents, or at least look like he’s doing so.

It’s possible he regenerated from the fatal injury; the super-cure did stop his terminal illness and allowed him to shrug off bullet wounds.

Yeah, the guy took 6-8 shots to the chest and a direct hit from a rocket launcher, somehow i don’t think a foot stomp was going to do the trick. At first i figured he had stomped his head like a grape, but since that wasn’t the case they should’ve known better.

As soon as they put him in a box I yelled, “you morons! It didn’t occur to anyone he might heal? Cut off his head or something!”

Sure enough, more agents had to die to set up Coulson’s cool alien blaster scene. I did think it was a pretty funny and satisfying scene otherwise, but still…

I’d love to see Shang Chi introduced. He’d make a great partner for May! Of course they’d probably have to drop his Fu Manchu connection due to rights issues.

Hmm, actually that might spur the Sax Rohmer estate into making another deal with Marvel, who I’m sure would love to reprint the Master of Kung Fu series. FYI: Shang Chi is a Marvel character but the MOKF series used Sax Rohmer characters, including Fu Manchu as Shang’s father, quite extensively, thus leaving possible reprints of that acclaimed series in limbo.

Not agent…grunts. Triplett went for military help, since SHIELD doesn’t exist anymore. Anybody who got whacked was probably some security force guy from Kirtland AFB.

Still, he nonchalantly walked away without even checking the guys pulse. That’s just cold.

Because there was any chance that Garrett hadn’t killed them?

Plus, it would have ruined the humor of the “I found it” line.

You know, this show had a HUGE body count, especially in the latter half of the season. Between Ward, Garrett and Deathlok, the not-quite-Hydra faction killed more people than cancer.

But he also called out to somebody around the corner. For all we know, there was a full med team hustling down the corridor outside as he spoke. Coulson just would have gotten in the way of the professionals. He did his job, so they could do theirs.

Of course now the military has the technology to build their own supersoldiers, since I’m sure they carted all the Cybertek equipment and files away.

The Incentive Program still gives me chills.

I thought that was well played- the guy is showing the newbie around, going on and on about the technology etc and asks why the newbie joined. His reply “the incentive program”. I’m thinking the company guy is disappointed cause newbie is only there for a benefits package, not passion for the mission.

Then we discover the truth of the incentive program.

Well done.

Fury did. When Coulson and crew deplaned at the new secret base, the first thing they saw was Simmons, who we last saw with Fury. So Fury rescued Fitz and Simmons, dropped them off at the new secret base, filled in Koenig on what’s going down, and left to track the beacon.

I feel like I missed something.

At what point was the gender of Skye’s parental unit revealed? Every online reference I have seen refers to that bloody figure as her Dad, yet I didn’t hear Raina use any pronouns or other gender reference when talking to them. I just heard her say that she (Raina) had information about “your daughter”, which would make it just as likely that the bloody figure is Skye’s Mom as it is that the figure is Skye’s Dad.

Simmons needs decompression becuase she was breathing compressed air 90 feet under the sea. Fitz does not need decompression, because he was holding his breath (sorta), so the air in his blood (what was left) was not compressed.

Thing sponge divers versus scuba divers.

Was it attached or was it a portable nail gun? My brother has a nail gun that uses its own supply of compressed air. Think a paintball gun tank, only about three times the size.
