Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E08: The Things We Bury (open spoilers)

That wasn’t Austria. That took place in the 80s after HYDRA busted Whitehall out of SHIELD jail, and they could have taken him anywhere. Presumably, they took him to Cambodia (or wherever the village was) and set up shop there. HYDRA had apparently been searching for Dichen Lachmann for quite a while now, and probably had set up a facility near her village.

Yeah the Hydra stuff in 1989 was in Asia not Europe.

Wasn’t HNNSkye’s village in China? Either HYDRA killed all the villagers or Doctor Dad did after going mad with grief after finding Ageless Mom’s body. I assume that’s where all this happened.

I’m trying to get this straight:

HYDRA was in China conducting experiments on the villagers, making them touch the obelisk and watching them die. When Skye’s future mom touched it she survived. Whitehall had her thrown in a cage in preparation for experimenting on her. Agent Carter raided the HYDRA base, captured WH and sent him to prison for the rest of his life and locked away the obelisk.

Eventually Doctor Dad had a child with Immortal Mom. Around the same time, Hydra agents freed WH from prison under the pretext of “budget cuts” or something. The first thing WH did was go back to the Chinese village and find Skye’s mom, and conduct “surgery” on her for many days. Once he had extracted her youth, or “taken all he could” he had the body tossed into the woods. I assume WH and his team then left in search of the obelisk.

DD then found his wife’s remains in the woods and went insane. Originally we were told monsters had killed everyone in Skye’s village. Later we heard someone had killed the HYDRA agents there and most of the village. Somehow a SHIELD agent managed to rescue Skye and she was classified as some sort of important mystery. Wasn’t she also watched over by some other agent? I can’t remember now.

I’m confused by what was meant when we were told Skye’s village was destroyed by monsters. Were there more than one, or was it all just Doctor Dad, who had become Anger Management Issue Dad? Also, according to Ward, HYDRA knew about Skye’s dad. Raina was working with HYDRA, but was also working with Angry Dad.

Feel free to fill in what I’m missing.

No - the original experimentation happened in Austria. Reinhardt (Whitehall’s original name) had apparently kidnapped subjects from all over the world - he was testing, among other things, whether race was a factor in surviving touching the obelisk. Presumably after the SSR raided the base, they repatriated any surviving subjects, including Skye’s immortal mother.

Undersecretary Pierce, the big bad in the 2nd Captain America movie, had him released because he thought Reinhardt “was only following orders.”

One of the two agents who rescued Skye - the one who was found dead and who Skye thought was her mother - set up secret orders inside SHIELD that Skye was to be secretly watched over, and never left in a single place for more than 6 months. That’s why she always bounced around foster homes, even the one that she felt she belonged in.

Either Hydra killed everyone else in the process of kidnapping the village elders, or Dr. Dad killed everyone else when he went insane.

I just watched the relevant scenes again, and the dissection of Skye’s mother did in fact take place in Austria, not China, in the same castle from 1945 - that’s where the Hydra agents brought him after releasing him from prison. There’s an “Austria 1989” subtitle and everything. So presumably that’s where Dr. Dad found her body as well.

Okay, thanks. So Doctor Angry Dad (DAD) managed to track HYDRA & his wife from China to Austria, then went back to China. A pair of SHIELD agents rescued/kidnapped THAT’S NOT HER NAME from a village that was destroyed “by monsters” which could be DAD, HYDRA and/or some actual monsters (who I’m assuming would be Inhumans).

Keep in mind that Whitehall had first seen the woman in 1945 and was then imprisoned for 44 years. He knew she had survived touching the obelisk but he didn’t know she wasn’t aging. So when he found her village he probably told his agents to bring him all the women over the age of sixty and kill everyone else in the village. He wasn’t interested in anyone else than that because he knew they weren’t the one he was looking for.

Oops sorry. I could have sworn they referred to the villagers as “locals” in that 1989 scene which made me think they set up shop in the area. Agreed that they just dumped her in the woods which is a weird way of disposing of a body for people that are probably hiding bodies all the time.

So it’s possible that SHIELD went to the village due to the 084 report around the same time as Hydra was kidnapping the elders and Skye’s mom. SHIELD arrives right after Hydra pulled out, presumably killing lots of villagers in the process. Doctor Dad showed up at the same time, possibly with some Inrelatives in tow, assumed SHIELD had wiped out the village, so started killing everyone in sight. One SHIELD agent somehow escaped with Skye and gave her to the other two agents who brought her back to the USA.

I saw something that said Austria, but I didn’t see anything about Asia. I must have missed it. Although, I guess all the Asian people implied they were in Asia pretty clearly now that I think about it. I’m used to seeing Asian people everywhere!

Woo Hoo. Yay me. Maybe I’m not quite over the hill yet.

So DAD is probably an Inhuman who didn’t care that much about humans one way or the other until he fell in love with one. Then humans did despicable things and stole his child, so he and his friends wiped out the human village and now he wants the human race dead, Coulson & Whitehall first.

But if his wife was human, why didn’t she age in 45 years? While Dr. Dad clearly did age in the 25 years since 1989 - they did quite a bit of digital smoothing in the scene where he found her body.

I don’t think his wife was fully human. There was something about her that allowed her to touch the obelisk. Maybe some ancient Kree DNA or something? When she touched the obelisk, it activated her eternal youth. Didn’t we hear that the blue alien in the secret mountain base dated back to the pyramids or something? I’m guessing Kree are very long-lived and somehow a little of their genes got mixed into the human race at some point a long time ago. Their descendants can activate the obelisk. Inhumans probably can’t. DAD never touched the obelisk/Diviner. He seemed to know better.

Or something.

I think it was Silenus that suggested DAD may be a fairly major inhuman villain in one of the earlier threads. It’s starting to look like he’s right…

Makes sense. Inhumans probably just live in secret, but DAD has evil plans that require access to Attilan and its technology.

Actually, it was B. Serum that first suggested DAD could be Maximus the Mad. I just agreed with him and suggested some possible evidence.

Ahhh…well then, I think you’re both probably right. So I agree with you for agreeing with him.

So, Diviner vs. Mjolnir. Which wins?
