Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E12: Who You Really Are

Remember that Eyeless Guy still had his and it was still functional as it alerted him that there was someone new. I’m assuming that was the one he himself used to transform.

I’m wondering if we’ll get any back story about the scattering and usage of the obelisks. In this most recent episode, when they figure out where the Kree (He has a name!) is trying to get to, the puzzle piece that brings it all together for them is that it was one of Whitehall’s (née Reinhardt) excavation sites. And the Kree confirmed that that was the singular storage spot for all the diviners left by the Kree.

When Reinhardt first unearthed the case, had it already been emptied of all but one diviner?
If so, had people like Skye’s mom already been going through Terrigenesis before Reinhardt even knew about the diviners?
Or was Skye’s mom pre-Terrigenesis when Reinhardt first abducted her?
If so, did that forced contact with the diviner set off her own transformation-lust? Had Reinhardt unearthed a full, previously undisturbed, case of diviners which was left unprotected when the SSR locked him away …only to be raided by Skye’s mom and others like her chasing after their compulsions?

The scene that showed young Eyeless Guy immediately post-Terrigenesis, implied that there was some sort of organized secret society of Inhumans who kept themselves hidden and maintained the utmost discretion in facilitating transformations. I assume that this discretion is the reason the Kree never noticed diviner use was already underway on Earth. Skye and Raina’s unguided transformations were not at all discrete, that’s how the Kree with a Name got tipped off that something was going on.

I also question whether Coulson and Cal were correct in their belief that the underground city beneath Puerto Rico was the only place on Earth that the diviners could be used (or maybe it was the one place where that particular diviner could be used). If the secret society had been guiding many people through the transformation, it seems they should have been based in Puerto Rico if that’s where the event always had to take place.

Then fold in the question of where Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver morphed. In the button scene from CA:WS, they seemed to resemble Eyeless Joe right after he went through terrigenesis - all scared and unsure. So who sent them through it? Strucker seems to be the obvious choice, which means he has/had access to a Diviner as well. Since Vin-Tak didn’t know about them, that would indicate that it was the city that blew the whistle, not the Diviner.

I think the show had made it clear that Simmons was romantically interested in Tripp. So she was probably hit harder by his death than anyone else on the team was. She’s angry with how Raina and Skye survived and Tripp died and she’s blaming the alien technology.

Yeah, I really didn’t understand all the “Simmons just goes crazy completely out of nowhere!” that kept getting repeated in the Thread for last week’s episode. It has been clear for quite some time that Simmons was in love with Trip. She was probably already entertaining the idea that maybe they could pursue something- he was more than flirtatious with her.

His death is going to completely make her question her entire worldview.

From what I recall, Baron von Woofie had Loki’s staff with an Infinity Stone in it, and was using that to experiment on humans. Most died, but Wanda and Pietro didn’t. So, I’m not sure if the twins are true Inhumans. Maybe they are, but they didn’t change because of a Diviner?

Also, Cal didn’t know where the base was, did he? He used to hang out with his wife and knew all about the transformations. You’d think if the Inhumans were using the Puerto Rican base Cal would have known where it was?

I’m guessing you don’t really need the Kree base, but since they used it, the Kree got a signal.

Now Heimdall. Did he see the base being used, or did he see an Inhuman? That doesn’t make sense. He’d have seen other Inhumans before this. Confusing.

The Winter Soldier kicker definitely implied that Wanda & Pietro were given superpowers by the Infinity Stone in Loki’s staff. Which would mean they’re not Inhumans… even though the MCU is supposed to be moving mutants --> inhumans.

Of course, in Avengers Loki’s staff is supposed to be powered by the Tesseract (enabling it to pierce the force field protecting the portal machine), rather than by yet another Inifinity Stone. So, why worry about another retcon, eh?

Heimdall’s omnivision gets dodgy if you assume he’s able to see and pay attention to everything that occurs. Did he see the Hulk’s rampage? Ant-Man was apparently active in the past; did he see that too? If he didn’t do anything against those, why do something about random Inhumans wandering around? It’s more likely that Asgard has committed to defending Midgard against aliens (only), and so he keeps an eye out for alien ships landing.

… Which doesn’t explain how Peter Quill got kidnapped off of Earth, I suppose.

Yeah, the Asgardians are primarily concerned with alien threats to Midgard, and I think Bifrost was out of commision for awhile, so maybe they couldn’t do much until it was repaired.

Quill may not count since he is half-alien himself.

The Tesseract is an Infinity Stone (the Space Stone to be precise).

Thanos gave Loki an Infinity stone to use with the staff, to enable him to get the Tesseract, also a stone. I think. A third stone is currently with the Xandorians from GotG.

Ignore my ranting, I just realized you meant that the staff was a different Infinity Stone than the Tesseract instead of the Tesseract not being an Infinity Stone.

That said I can’t remember if it was specified that the force field protecting the Tesseract was created by the Tesseract or using the scepter so I’ll just shut up now.

Yes. But in the Avengers movie, the technobabble of why Loki’s staff was able to pierce the force field protecting the portal machine was that Loki’s staff was powered by the Tesseract itself. Not by another, similar Infinity Stone. The color of the staff’s glow and the Tesseract’s glow also matched, reinforcing that.

All of that was stated by Selvig, so not so much of a retcon to say he didn’t realize the stone in Loki’s staff was a completely different Infinity Stone (probably the Mind Gem) with exactly the same color and power manifestation. But, still.

The Aether from Thor: the Dark World is another Infinity Stone, if we’re collecting the set.

note: crossposted with Cyros here.

Okay, let’s collect iStones.

Loki’s staff. It can work with the Tesseract. Currently with von Strucker, but not for long based on the Avengers trailer.

Tesseract. Currently in Odin’s vault.

Aether. Also currently in Odin’s vault?

? The stone currently being safeguarded by the Xandorians.

Is that it so far? Two to go?

Aether was given to the Collector by Sif and Volstag. Dunno what happened to it after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Soul Gem is probably in the forehead of Adam Warlock, whose rebirth cocoon is slyly seen in the background of the Collector’s scenes in Guardians – twice. The second time it’s opened and empty. I suspect Adam is going to show up in Guardians II.

Stop getting me worked up. The Vision was one of my favorite heroes, and Warlock was also my favorite for awhile. Doctor Strange was another fav. The only one missing is Silver Surfer, but he’s off the table. All my childhood dreams are coming true. Well, if Warlock does show up.

So:

  1. Loki’s staff
  2. Odin’s vault
  3. The Collector
  4. Xandorians.

5 & 6. Wonder which movies they’ll show up in? Warlock is a good guess. I wonder if Loki’s staff will play a role in creating Vision.

It’s Spring Break. He got distracted.

Just rewatched - Sif says specifically that he saw the Kree arriving.

Which raises another question: How did the Kree arrive? By ship? By some sort of Bifrosty wormhole?

The other MCU Kree seem to only use ships - at least, we don’t see Ronan using any portals in GotG.

Then there should either be a Kree ship parked somewhere on Earth for our heroes to discover, or…a shipload of Kree in orbit wondering what happened to their friend.
