Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E12: Who You Really Are

Maybe Attilan projects a cloaking field that hides things from Heimdall.

As I very dimly recall from earlier Thor comics, Heimdall could see anything (and everything?), and he was charged with guarding Bifrost, the rainbow bridge and entryway to Asgard. But telling all…maybe that’s not in his job description?

Meaning that as long as it wasn’t an apparent threat to Asgard, it was unimportant. Also, Odin may have asked him about this or that from time to time, but didn’t he have messenger ravens for near the same purpose? Augh, I’ve forgotten quite a bit of my Norse mythology.

Thought and Memory are handy spies, but limited. Heimdall’s weakness is probably more one of attention than ability. Sure, he can see everything on Asgard or earth, but he can’t see everything on Asgard and Earth, if you catch the distinction. If he ain’t lookin’ fer it, he kin’t see it.

After Agent Carter’s faster pace I was a little worried that the SHIELD’s return would feel especially slow. But, I enjoyed this episode a lot. I thought they told us enough new things, without giving away the whole story! And, another great cliffhanger!

Sif said that they’d get him home to the Kree. Not long on planning, that one.

“We shall call it Ballpeenjir.”

I just rewatched the ep last night and caught a funny I missed the first time. When Sif & Son of Coul were interrogating the Kree has a name, Sif goes, “typical Kree! They need a weapon to make a point!” while she’s waving her sword at him. Coulson gave her look like, “um…”

Those two had chemistry. I could watch a whole ep of those two.

Or football stadium. The Philippine Arena seats 55,000, but if you’re willing to crowd in a bunch of standing people you might could get 75,000 in there.

I figure there’s gotta be some sort of diminishing returns, there… there were only two people under the sea a few episodes ago: One of them developed porcupine powers, and one of them spawned earthquake powers that almost killed everybody. If you Inhumanize 75,000 people all at once, it’s gonna be messy…

Another thing I noticed. The Kree said he detected a signal and knew it must be a Diviner. Coulson also said, “good thing we flooded the base so they can’t make any more.”

But, Inhumans have been going through the transformation for centuries. Why no signals before this? Also, someone mentioned the Diviners from the crate in Portugal must have been stolen in the '40’s around the time the one Hydra found was stolen. Again, if iHumans have been transforming for centuries, they couldn’t have been using the missing Portugal ones.

Also also, those Portuguese kids on the beach at the beginning? Were those the worst accents ever or what?

The Kree got a signal from the Kree city being used to activate a Divine. Presumably, the Inhumans know how to activate a Diviner without needing the Kree city.

That must be the case. I wonder how long it will take Coulson & Co. to figure it out. They’ve seen Gordon now, and they know about Skye’s mom, and I’d expect them to talk about it.

They don’t actually know that “Gordon” (when did he get named? I thought he was supposed to be the Reader…) is an Inhuman. They’ve only got Raina and Skye as example Inhumans, plus reports of Skye’s mom. They have no reason to connect Gordon to any of those, since he popped up and took Cal.

They know Cal had been mining the Index for superpowered minions. Their most logical conclusion is that Gordon is another superpowered minion working for Cal who didn’t get on the Index. Not that he’s a mystery Inhuman.

He’s doing a crappy job of mining. He managed to find a blade freak, a sociopath IT guys, some muscle and a loud-mouth who can be defeated by wearing earplugs. I could find a better crew by randomly picking people along Hollywood Blvd. some Saturday night!

He took Raina right out of Shield’s grasp. They should be wondering who in the heck his is, Index or Inhuman.

I’m curious how Gordon (that’s what Skye’s mom called him) locates people to teleport. Is that his power, or is there another with the ability to find people?

He has to be able to locate all sorts of things, otherwise he would have teleported into a rock or something decades ago. I’d also like to know more about his shield power. Is that strictly during teleportation, as a protective measure against aforementioned rocks, or can he use it defensively?

The shield appears first, then he pops in, so I guess the shield clears the way. The whole energy effect seems to emanate from his upper back.

I heard Coulson refer to “Fitz and Simmons” for the first time instead of the usual “FitzSimmons” blended concoction. That kind of got my attention. I guess it’s a reflection of the fact that they are not quite the duo they once were.

Called it!

Spoilers for the next two episodes:

1. Ward and 33 are back next week as well as Adama appearing as a rival SHIELD director. 2. March 31 will see the reappearance of Lucy Lawless. Told you they weren’t going to burn her in just one appearance.

I ain’t readin’ no damn spoiler. Just gonna have to hold off on that there “called it” pardner.

Actually, the “called it” goes back to S02E02. If I got it completely correct I’m going to have to ask Joss of a writing job!
