Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E19: The Dirty Half Dozen

Don’t forget he also betrayed Mike Peterson last episode. Having Hydra take him captive was not part of the original plan but Ward substituted his own plan. This showed that Ward still couldn’t be trusted.

Almost forgot to mention - nice parallel between Coulson and Black Widow from the CA:WS movie, with the real reason for the mission having nothing to do with rescuing the hostages.

Fine fine, I’m bad at analogies. Point is it was a too-aggressive response that was completely out of character for her

Although this is a good point

It wasn’t Widow, that was Maria Hill who’s been in all the movies not just Winter Soldier

You missed the point. Coulson’s actions at the Hydra base parallel Widow’s actions on the hijacked SHIELD freighter in the Winter Soldier.

Well Goddamn, between my shitty analogy and missing this I’m just not gonna talk anymore :stuck_out_tongue:

That might be for the best, sir.
I loved the no-cut Skye action scene… but I wish they would take a beat to show how taxing something like that would be for her. I can buy a May or Black Widow or Hawkeye doing all that and not skipping a beat, but at least make Skye’s super-transition more relatable.
I also think the show has gotten less quippy and that’s not really good. A lot of scenes lately have ended with utter cliche lines and I keep expecting something worthwhile to come out of the characters mouths.
Like last night a scene ended on Coulson and May having an exchange like “Hope this works.” “You and me both.”…cut to commercial.

You say that after the episode with the very best quip on the show? “I thought her power was running really fast and collecting gold rings”.

I think I missed something when Coulson and Gonzalez were talking. Coulson said something like “We all have secrets, I know what you have in the hold of your ship”.
So is what’s in the ship? Something not revealed yet or something I missed during the last few episodes?

I’m pretty sure we don’t know exactly . They talked about bringing a fiber(?) laser from the ship to get into Fury’s toolbox, but I doubt that’s it. But in the flashback episode, when Hydra was trying to takeover the carrier, Gonzalez said a few times that he couldn’t let Hydra have whatever was on that ship - hence the original plan to scuttle it and kill everyone on board.

Whatever it was it was the reason Fury told Bobby to blow up the ship rather than let it fall in Hydras hands.

Kind of apropos to this episode - how is it that SHIELD II (Adama boogaloo) has so many more resources than our heroes?

Coulson in theory should have access to whatever was left of SHIELD, since he inherited control from Fury. Is it just the large number of folks required to run an aircraft carrier? We could assume that all the cooks/janitors/etc responded to agent training as well as Skye (or even half as well) to explain the number of strike teams they seem to have.

One thing that bothered me, although apparently not enough to mention in my first comment, is that they’re gearing up for a serious combat mission, assaulting a HYDRA base, and nobody is packing anything heavier than a hand gun? Seems like they’d be going for more firepower…

At least they use real guns, not Icers. But yeah, watching agents with handguns take out a bunch of guards with SMGs is always silly.

I am not. She received only a few weeks of desultory training, not the years of a regular agent. She has participated actively in only a firefight or two, and up ‘til now mostly as a hindrance. To go from "deer in the headlights’ to 'Gun-fu master" in such a short period continues my pronouncement of “super special snowflake”, and I hate it.

I rather suspect it’s because she is, in fact, super special, and has now been activated.

Have we been given a timeline on the show yet?
She was starting to receive training from Ward after only a few episodes in…then Winter Soldier happened and then she was receiving training from May. Early in season 2 they went through great efforts to establish that Skye was flourishing as a field agent under May’s tutelage.
My guess is that she’s been involved with SHIELD for close to a year at this point–Yes, not a realistic progression but it’s certainly disingenuous to say she was a deer in headlights only a few weeks ago.

Yep, just a couple of epis ago she watched Bobbi get her ass kicked and did nothing, standing there with her dainty little thumb up her ass.

Wasn’t that while she was trying to get over micro-breaks in the bones of her arms and still freaked the hell out by the whole terragenesis thing? I think you’re not being quite fair or honest here.

I read that as Sarah Michelle Gellar (SMG) and though you were referring to the fight sequences on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss seems to have a type.

Can’t go back to it, now that they shot down the bus. I am assuming that Lola is back at the base, instead of the ass end of that C-17.
