Agents of SHIELD: Shadows S02E01 [open spoilers]

My thoughts as well. Then I thought that it was Skye on the motorcycle because she went up a level in badass (you can tell because she has a serious haircut now), but then the previews for next week have May on the cycle. Agent Newguy must be a pilot then, right?

It’s a quinjet. They can be flown by just about anybody with a pulse.

I have a feeling “They broke up FitzSimmons” just replaced “They killed Brian” as the phrase used just before “I’m not watching this show ever again” in quite a few households. Let’s hope that it doesn’t affect the show’s ratings - at least, not to the point where some bean counter at Disney asks, “We’re spending how much on this show and getting only what rating?”.

Was anyone else a little surprised they admitted that SHIELD performed actual assassination missions?
“SHIELD Protocol - sometimes hostile gifted individuals are put down.”

I’m hoping/dreading that they play the entire season like last night - Simmons is gone, but Fitz has lengthy conversations with her anyway. We’ll never see her except as Fitz’s hallucination.

Don’t be silly, there are lots of people like me who quit watching Family Guy long before they killed Brian.

The SHIELD that had been infiltrated at the highest levels from the very beginning by HYDRA? That SHIELD?
Not surprised in the least.

I’m not surprised that Hydra did assassinations (or didn’t in this case). I’m surprised that the good guys in SHIELD, like May and Coulson, were aware of it and didn’t appear to have a problem with it.

Uh, I’d generally recommend not taking your facts from Cracked articles. They’re amusing, but every single time they’ve touched on something I have direct knowledge of, they’re wildly wrong.

In this case, they spend a lot of time about the pre-flight checks being a time limiter. You mean the list that you skip if you’re trying to escape? Yah, that list. Check lists are for safety, reliability and repeatability. Not for drama.

Knowing that Hawkguy shoots very pointy arrows at people, I suspected some harm may have been intended. And although Widow’s waif-fu seems to mostly KO opponents, I kinda suspected that someone called “Black Widow” at work may have caused some fatalities in the line of her work.

Really, the founders of SHIELD – Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandoes – don’t seem the type to have been shy about necessary killing. We know the Robert Redford Hydra guy wasn’t averse to some killin’, so that leaves… Fury as the gentle voice of pacifism in establishing SHIELD’s operational guidelines?

Great episode, though I can see where it might be confusing/difficult to follow for someone just starting to watch the show. I suspect things will slow down a bit in the next episode or two to let the audience catch up.

Loved the opening with Agent Carter & the Howling Commandos. Thought Fitz was really played well, given his situation. Wondering what Simmons is doing? Not real clear on who all the new characters are, but I guess we’ll learn more as we go along. Looks like the team is going to be needing some super powered backup soon…

I though I recognized that big stupid baby head.

There’s a difference between planning a mission where lethal force is authorized, and even expected, in the furtherance of a goal - say rescuing a bunch of hostages from the galley of a ship - and planning a mission whose only goal is killing a particular individual.

Also note that Agent Carter and the Howling Commandos just arrested all the Hydra agents they caught at the beginning of the episode, instead of tossing in a few grenades then laying down some 30 cal fire like any rational outnumbered fireteam would do.

Peggy Carter was not a member of the Howling Commandoes nor did they found SHIELD.

Ah, pedantry. Peggy Carter was one of the founder of SHIELD, yes? And it’s been implied for the hiatus series that one (or more) of the Howling Commandoes was involved as well. Probably Tripp’s grandfather.

Ah well, see I am thinking Comics, not Film. In the comics she was a rather tough member of the Resistance, who was Caps girlfriend.

Yeah, TV Peggy is much cooler.

I actually expected Fitz to be totally cured by the end of the episode as is the norm in episode television drama. I’m glad they seem to be taking a more realistic approach.

I’m reminded of “House”. At every commercial break the patient of the week would be facing some bloody, life-threatening, convulsing event. When they came back from the break the terrible issue had been resolved, often so quickly and easily that I missed what the resolution was before getting back from the kitchen/bathroom.

Yeah, a Cracked article recently said that it takes 90 minutes of vigorous exercise to burn off 130 calories. Not.

I’ll admit I’m no pilot. But fifteen minutes seems reasonable even without flight checks.

Does an unmanned plane parked on a runway even have fuel in it?

If it’s a ready alert craft, sure.
