Agony Ecstasy of Phil Spector (BBCAmerica)

Anyone else watching this tonight? It’s the first time I’ve ever heard Phil discussing his career and the various artists he produced.

He seems clearly medicated (in a good way) and surprisingly lucid. His memory of those early years is still very good. Phil’s mental issues and substance abuses are well known. But between 1958 thru 1970 this guy produced some of the most signature music of the 60’s. It’s such a shame his demons destroyed him.

I’m not sure when the interview took place. But I’m guessing it was a few years before the shooting. They did include clips from his trial.

BBCAmerica is repeating the show at 11 central. I’m going to record it. There’s some great music history here.

I stand corrected. The interview was done around the time of his trial. I know because they asked Phil about how he’d deal with getting convicted.

His stories about working with John Lennon on Imagine was very interesting. Phil was in NY when John was killed.
