Ah crap, Brett Ratner to direct X-men 3

Is that a 21 Jump Street reference? Did Grieco replace or join Depp on the show? I never watched it.

I notice you didn’t mention Blade 2, X2, and Spider-Man 2, all of which are widely considered (including by me) to surpass the originals.

Yeah.

Problem: Rumors suggest that one of the reasons Singer severed his relationship with Fox is the fact that Tom Rothman is in charge. He apparently lacks fans among the directorial community. So don’t look for Singer to return unless and until there’s a management change at the studio.

Ratner, on the other hand, has desperately trying to get himself attached to an A-list project after working in the B-movie trenches (After the Sunset made money, but nobody’s going to remember it in two years, and Red Dragon is perceived in the industry as a lightweight underachiever.) He lobbied hard for Mission: Impossible 3 and The Transformers, both of which went to other directors. So as a marginally competent journeyman, he’s got everything to gain and little to lose except the odor of wannabe hack that’s been following him around the last few years.

But as Winston Bongo says, it could be a hell of a lot worse.

So X-Men3 to get ratbitten!!!

So Jackie Chan replaces Alan Cummings as Nightcrawler?!

Yeah, but you are the only person on the planet who liked Blade 2. I agree with you about X2 and Spider-man 2 though.

Well, my point is that the downward spiral seems to have gone on for new film franchise efforts, not for sequels where the creative team has stayed intact.

Though I admit I’m not a fan of the Blade movies, so my knowledge there is sketchier.

A Gambit movie would be fun as hell, but it wouldn’t fit in well with the current movies, unless you wanted to make the movie a love triangle between Gambit, Rogue, and Iceman. And they’ve portrayed Bobby as such a nice guy - not the smartass, immature prankster he is in the comics - that it’s hard to see Rogue dumping him for Gambit, who really does behave awfully. It works in the comics because move!Rogue and comic!Rogue are quite different. And although Johnny Depp would be a cool Gambit, he’s far too old for Anna Paquin.

Oh, there’s no danger of that. If that happened, it would mean that Jean Grey would stay dead, and we all know that it’s impossible for Jean Grey to stay dead.

Yeah, it’s silly to think they’d do anything but Dark Phoenix. They even had the Phoenix Effect over the last shot of X2, so you can go “I know what’s happening in the next movie!”

Hey, Blade 2 was great: Ron Perlman, ninja vampires, Prague sewers - what’s not to like?

No, it’ll be Chris Tucker.

Avi Arad has already said in interviews that the Beast will be makeup and prosthetics (although I’d assume that they’d use CGI for some action shots). I’ll see if I can find the cite on that…

Cite.

Ron Howard has made some excellent films. I really have no idea where you’re coming from here.
