Ah-nuhld to Run

But how can he possibly stop the Gary Coleman juggernaut?

God help us all. If he wins (and he will, because everybody knows
his name), I swear I will be moving to New Zealand. I realize I have said this before, but I really mean it this time. Kiwi and Aussie Dopers, is there room for me down under?

No. Sod you.

Trust me, mate, once you’ve had a whiff of the little worm we got for prime minister, you’ll be screaming for Arnie.

Who else could pump up a state like Ahhhnold

If he loses this election, you know what he’s going to say…

Screw that tracer. You mean that you know what he will say when he runs for reelection.

Wooooo!! Arnold “Das Terminator” Schwarzenegger for governor!

Maybe it will finally make all of those “my governor can beat up you governor” minnesotians shut-up.

Hey I am all for it.

Anyone is better than Grey right now

Apparently, some polls show Arnold with less support than Richard Riordan (who’s not running anymore). So maybe he won’t win on name recognition alone. Plus, Arnold’s public persona is so stupid - I mean, Jesse Ventura wasn’t Einstein, but at least he was controversial and interesting - that it may hurt him. I hope so, anyway.

What is his political position, anyway? All I’ve heard lately is that he’s a “moderate Republican.” Well, that and “omfg teh TERMINATOR is running 4 guv!!!11”

If I lived in California, I don’t know if I’d vote for Schwarzenegger or earlier announcer Flynt. Choices, choices…

I think you guys could honestly do worse.

Well, they did elect Reagan…

I was watching The West Wing tonight (9-10PM) and they scrolled some text across the bottom of the screen:
“Arnold Schwarzenegger to run for Governor of California!”

During the following commercial break, they had two commercials:
“Will Arnold run? Find out tonight on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (11:35PM)!”
“Will Arnold run? Find out tonight on the 11:00 News!”

I tell you, NBC really has this timing thing down.

What little I’ve heard suggests Richard Riordan with a heavy accent – fiscally conservative, socially liberal, willing to show real compassion for the downtrodden instead of paying lip service. But that’s just an early feel. Espect more detail once the press starts digging.

(Hey, he’s married to a Kennedy, he can’t be that far-right… )

Well he might allow some respite from relentless soundbite politics.

Oh, wait…

I can’t get over the, “I’m famous so I will make a good cheif executive” thing. Has this clown ever had any job that in any way would prepare him to run a government the size of California? Amatures can get away running small states but you need somebody who has at least read a budget for a job of that size. A person who has never been in government, or even in business for that matter, has no business even entering the race.

What the hell is he going to do about the economy, intimidate it?

If I remember rightly, Arnie has two business degrees, and was a self-made millionaire by the age of 28. I can’t speak for his politics, but on the financial side I would imagine he could hold his own.

I find the whole thing interestin. I would really like to actually see something of what he’s done outside the movies - as WotNot describes.

Can anybody find a cite for Arnold’s actual political goals and financial abilities?

Ah-nuhld has one degree, in international marketing and business administration, from the University of Wisconsin-Superior (1979).

There are a bunch of sites out there saying he was a millionaire before the age of 22, but none I could find that actually gave specific details on how he made his pile at such a tender age. So it may well be true, or it may be one of those Hollywood press agent concoctions.

From what I read, he put his winnings from body-building competitions into real estate.
