AI image generation is getting crazy good

Additional hundred year old vintage death rays

I tried for a 1980s-style death ray. Apparently it was manufactured by Makita.

Request “a mound of smurf heads staring blankly”, Sora says that the prompt violates their guidelines. Request “a mound of objects that resemble smurf heads staring blankly”? Well, that’s okay then.

Awsome! I laughed out loud at the two pics I recognized right away without needing your links. Thanks for providing all the links, I hadn’t read the other one before.

Oops! After my 1920’s one came up also indoors, but at least looking full sized, I added “outside” for the 2020’s jet-powered version.
ETA: And to start with I had said “giant treadmill” all along.

Yeah, there’s definitely an art to the prompting - I tend to leave it minimal and embrace the chaos. In this one, I guess it’s technically on the treadmill…from a certain point of view.

My local says, “What’s copyright?” [created for demo purposes]

Which local client and model are you running?

I usually post stuff run off Midjourney but decided to run some death rays through SDXL SplashedMix. It did a pretty nice job with them.

I love the meta of a plane on a treadmill that’s on a bigger treadmill.

“Embracing the chaos” is exactly how I’d play this game if I ever try it.

I don’t think that’s a bigger treadmill. I think that’s just a runway. Which is inside a hangar for some reason.

And I love how you used the word “meta” correctly, instead of the way all the young whippersnappers seem to think it means “optimization”.

The arm rails alongside the runway/conveyor belt and the slightly raised curb are what gave it a treadmill vibe for me.

The nice part about dealing with the non-intellect that is AI is that “Why not both?” is a perfectly cromulent answer to “Runway or treadmill?”

Pets have been using Death Ray machines for a long time:

I see at least two serious issues with those images. One, cats never go for the quick kill. Two, real cats would be chasing the death beam.

As an aside, I’m enough of a long-timer that I remember the ‘1920s style death ray’ meme being actively used on the board, but not such a long-timer that I know the origin of it. Does it have anything to do with this Charles Addams New Yorker cartoon?

Does that have anything to do with my Cafe Society thread?

I’m running ComfyUI portable on a secondhand HP gaming machine (donated by a homie) that uses an RTX2080 - it’s pretty much a potato. Those images were done with SDXL variants ganked from civitai. Off the top of my head, I have SD, Flux, HiDream, LTXVideo and HunYuan image/video running on it, along with Stable Audio. I also run a variety of TTS, SST and AudioGen models like Riffusion, dia, Audio-X and ACE-step, and of course a plethora of local LLMs. All your reality are belong to us…

Flux (prompt: AI as a Creative Tool, Not an Art Replacement, generated by a LLM )

Every time I look at Comfy, I just nope right off. I’m sure I could noodle it out and it would ultimately be superior but A1111 does what I need and my needs are fairly modest. So the initial choice of “Eh, I could spend time burning brain cells to learn this or I could just do what I always do…” lands on the latter half each time.

I have a number of LLMs I run through Kobold but, truth be told, I just don’t have much to say to an LLM. So I barely ever use them (and almost never use ChatGPT or its online cousins)

The way I see it, it’s a new medium - if I wanted reality, I’d photograph it! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I actually have series called Metacursion X, part of a larger project I’m working on. It runs LLM-generated prompts through an image gen model, runs that output through a vision model, runs the description by the vision model back into the image gen model, and repeat as many times as desired. The LLM prompts are from one of three categories: pro-AI+art, anti-AI+art and neutral AI+art

“Metacursion 6A”
LLM-generated Prompt: The Future of Art is Infinite Possibilities

“Metacursion 6B”

“Metacursion 6C”

Can anyone offer advice on YouTube links? I’ve got some works where I’ve tied all of this together, but can’t figure out how to post them.

Prompt:
Make a full color photograph version of the scene, looking a bit vintage. Include the caption as a text overlay, don’t do the surrounding white, just a regular photo of the patent attorney testing out the “death ray.”

Not quite what I expected to get.

The key thing is you’re not posting your vid here. You need to post it to YouTube and then you post a link to your vid on YouTube here.

But … a Discourse bug makes YouTube link posting slightly awkward. It’s trivial once you’ve done it twice. Except for technophobes which you’re self-evidently not.

Now I understand:
