AI image generation is getting crazy good

Well, I tried the grok video pic to animation. I was hoping for some audio but pretty nice!

Has anyone animated Disaster Girl?

nm found one

Tried that, it worked. No text prompt, this was from the “normal.” Original image altered from a pic posted to a recent thread.

Chocula and Robin with no prompt

Chocula and Robin with the prompt “Robin says “holy shit Batman”.”

I’d like to know how to make only one character speak the line. It is funny that Chocula aped Robin, but one doesn’t always want that. I’d also like to figure out how to make the requested action start faster. I feel like it wastes a lot of time before the characters get around to doing what I asked, and they frequently can’t finish before the 5 seconds are up.

The Google Photos app also lets you convert photos to video, via Veo3. I hadn’t tried it before, but I decided to tonight. It limits you to 5 free videos per day, no option for a prompt. Here’s comparisons between Grok (promptless) and Veo3.

A while back I had the idea of a photo of someone spraying water on cotton candy. I couldn’t get Copilot/Sora to grasp what cotton candy looks like wet. But here’s the best image I got, animated

Grok

Veo3

(I was going to post more, but I ran into a Youtube limit I was unaware of, telling me I had reached the limit of videos I could upload in a day without being verified.)

I noticed a little while ago that Grok has copied ChatGPT’s branching conversation UI system, where every redone prompt and response is still available in the conversation tree. Good on them for noticing something good and stealing it. I wonder why other AI providers, especially Google, don’t do this in their UIs? It seems like a relatively straightforward system to program from scratch, and as long as you’re keeping conversation histories for the user, keeping all the branches in addition to the current mainline is not that much overhead in storage usage.

But, Grok doesn’t have this feature inside the video generation area, at least inside the website version. If you get a video you like, make sure you download it immediately before you try again, otherwise it’s lost. Only the most recent video for each picture you uploaded stays in your favorites (you can unfavorite them at any time and then that video is gone for good on their site as far as I can tell.) Now I understand that keeping all those extra ‘discarded’ videos would mean a lot of extra overhead, but it would be nice if they kept your prompt history, at least. As it is now, once I type a prompt in, it uses it and doesn’t remember what it was.

I figured out a better workaround than keeping the prompts in a separate textfile: Web page stickynotes. There are many plugins for browsers that let you put sticky notes on web pages, stored in your browser like cookies, but for your use only. Grok’s web UI keeps a consistent URL for each picture+video in your favorites, so that lets a stickynote extension work. Just copy and paste your prompt into a sticky note before you send it.

It occurred to me to want to see the straight dope and the gay genius.

Summary

A pair of dudes standing together. One is obviously straight and very dumb. The other is obviously gay and very smart. Iphone 15 photo with shallow dof and forced perspective.

I fed this to Copilot to convert into a realistic photo without explaining anything.

It understood it well.

And a new one. The prompt was only “Convert this to a realistic photo.”

It understood the layout and even realized it was Trump.

A montage of various ‘zine inspired pieces, some retro pop art, a sort of political cartoon looking thing and a gross snail. You know, the usual stuff.

In honor of Rosh Hashana, I sent this picture out to my D&D group of my character blowing the shofar:

If that was a valid link to an image before, it’s not anymore.

Now?

[Edited]

Nope.

I have to click through to see it. That might require a login on the hosting site, which I happen to have.

ETA Now I see it inline, and I see you moved hosting sites yet again. :minibus:

Yeah, I so rarely post images that I forgot which app I usually use.

Do you see it now?

Yup. Shofar, sho good.

Other people have told me they can’t get the speech sound from my avatar video to play. I still can hear it; does anyone else have an issue with no sound?
