Aiee! I am computerless!

The power cord on my laptop died. My laptop itself is fine, but it’s drained of battery. Dell is sending me a new one, but they’re sending it to my Canadian home, where I will be visiting in about a week. My desktop is also in Canada.

I am incredibly reliant on my laptop, for homework and entertainment. I don’t even own a TV, I watch DVDs on my computer. Last night, I read (I kid you not) 250 pages of Anna Karenina for lack of other occupations.

So I’m sitting in my office (I’m a grad student) using the computers here to get some work done. At 9 pm on a Saturday. And when I go home… no one will be waiting for me but Anna.

It’s going to be a LONG week.

Circuit City sells generic, semi-universal notebook power supplies that should work with your notebook if you need to get back to work immediately.

Ironically enough, I discovered, after having bought one today, that since it is a different wattage than I require, it could harm my computer seriously. I need to return it tomorrow.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I’m not sure if that’ll work. Dell is notorious for having proprietary (sp?) technology all over their products.

Out of curiosity what is the model # of the unit?

Inspiron 1100, is my laptop, if that was what you are asking.

And truthfully, I WILL live for a week. It’s just that I’m finding out how computer-based my life really is.

This Circuit City power adapter will work using tip # 5.

Your unit is apparently a bit of a power hog and needs a 120 watt adapter (not the 70 watt models)

I don’t know if this adapter tip 5 is included with the 120 watt adapter or not. Extra tips are $ 10 or so and are usually on pegs near the adapter. Not all CC’s carry all the products. Call to see if it is in stock.
