I am having a problem with AOL Instant Messenger. When I first start the program, it works fine. After I haven’t been chatting for a while, if I try to IM someone, I can’t see their responses. In other words, when you start a chat, a box apears in which you type your first message. As soon as you hit “enter”, the box becomes a split screen, with your message and any replies on the top, and the space where you type on the bottom. My box never goes to split screen, so I can not see any replies. Has this ever happened to anyone? Does anyone know the cure? I hate having to reboot everytime I want to chat. Thanks in advance for any help.
Power down your computer. Unplug the keyboard and mouse. Throw the box and monitor out the window then douse liberally with kerosene. Set alight and help us purge the world of the taint of AOL. Go buy a new mo’ better computer. Then get DSL or Cable. Kick back and enjoy.
Hope I didn’t offend. This is merely a fanciful jest.
Actually, Dave’s connection is pretty damn fast, IMHO. Dave, how often do you reboot anyway, and how many other progs do you have open? It might be a case of low system resources. I used to run my win98 pc for days at a time . . . it would slowly get to where I could not read anything. I rebooted or turned the thing off for a bit to give it some rest.
Simetra, you putz, dave doesn’t have AOL. He has AOL’s free Instant Messanger, which lets you talk online with people all over the world, both AOL users and other AIM users.
I use AIM to keep in touch with my family, who have AOL because my prepubescent little sister likes the Kid’s Chat rooms. Millions of people who want nothing to do with AOL use AIM. It’s free, stable, and easy to use.
Pay more attention if you want to make snide remarks about people’s internet connections.
