(Old) Ain't gonna move no more in the MMP

My boss (the program manager) spent Wed-Sun in Mexico, and when he tried to come home on Sunday he wound up getting stuck in Houston due to hurricane Beryl. He wasn’t able to get out until today; he and his wife should be on a plane right now. :crossed_fingers: Of course he doesn’t have his corporate laptop or phone with him, so the other program leads and I have been filling in – with me as the primary POC for our customer, who is both needy and not the clearest communicator. I’m always able to be patient and tactful (and slightly deferential) when needed, but they aren’t my strong suits and that stuff wears me out…it has been an exhausting few days! Plus this is the bajillionth day in a row of +100°F weather, which just makes me not want to go anywhere/do anything other than try to balance my in-home comfort with keeping the heat pump from burning itself out (fans are the best!). Hopefully my boss gets home alright and it storms later, as forecast.

As for the OP, moving is in my blood. I was a bit of an Army/DoD brat, and moved pretty often as a kid: for some people that makes them want to never move again once they no longer have to, but I found that I like it. After graduating from college, I moved 10 times in 20 years: I landed in my current rental 10 years ago, and have only stayed here this long because of the dog. It’s really hard to find good rentals with a pet (this listing actually said “no pets,” but I called to ask how firm that was and kinda talked my property manager into it), and it’s a pretty good house with a big yard and in a great location so I’m alright with staying here for as long as I have Bailey. I’m definitely moving after she dies, though, with an eye to returning to townhouse living once I don’t need the yard anymore (trading my current abundant exterior square footage for a little more interior square footage). Every abode has quirks that start getting on my nerves after a few years – especially true of rental properties – and I like being able to move on to a new set of quirks relatively easily. I can’t imagine ever saying “this is it; I’m never moving again” as long as I’m single, but I could see maybe staying in the next place for a while. I’m hoping to really take my time with that decision/selection. As soon as I could afford it I started paying the movers to pack me, which takes care of the part I hate the most, and I always move on a Thursday (the movers are usually a little cheaper and more available, plus I can have the locksmith, etc., come on Friday and still have the weekend to settle in). These days, the worst part of moving is the cost: I expect to pay more rent in the next place, and estimate that the security deposit + first month’s rent + movers will equal ~$8500. A lot of times, my decisions to stay put for another year are just about $$.

Notre-Dame de Paris est finis!

Here is the completed Section 4, representing the years 1225-1786:

And here is the finished set, which I wrapped up on Sunday evening:

That’s very cool!

I definitely don’t have the creativity for MOCs; luckily, I’m really happy just following build instructions. Notre Dame was set #16 (#1 was in March 2023), and has the most pieces to date (4,383). It’s not the largest set, though: the grand piano and the globe are both bigger. I did quite a bit of display rearranging while figuring out where to put the finished cathedral.

I’m pretty sure the Lamborghini Countach will be next, but I’m trying to take a bit of a break before ordering #17.

So far my sets don’t have a theme; they’re just things that I like. I dipped my toe in the Star Wars world earlier this year with R2, and that could be a slippery slope – but what could really get me in trouble are the Harry Potter sets. I’m deliberately not buying any of those (for now), because I think if I started I’d wind up needing an extra bedroom!

That would drive me insane: when I’m sick, I just want to be left alone!

Oh no! Sounds like she’s recovering, but ugh.

Nice!

Piano is the only instrument I’m willing to hear solo when it comes to jazz, but around here there’s almost always also a bass and/or drums. It’s hard to find true solo performances…which I don’t really mind, but it might be nice to hear some solo jazz piano (from someone like Mr. Green) every now and then.

Yay!!

:crossed_fingers:

I don’t think it works that way. She was likely trained to simply card everyone (which is much easier for staff than, say, a “card everyone who looks under 30” policy), but it’s really at the venue’s discretion whether to card at all – which is why her supervisor was able to say it was OK to serve you and Mr. The Cane. At least in Virginia, there is no legal requirement to check ID; the only law is that those drinking must be at least 21. So there’s no such thing as illegally being served unless you’re under 21.

Was it maybe Guillane-Barre syndrome?

More :crossed_fingers: …!
