(Old) Ain't gonna move no more in the MMP

Wifey has an appointment to get her tire fixed for tomorrow at 1400. I have an appointment for the Prius to get the oil changed, the flappy bit fixed, and the brakes inspected for Friday at 0830.

I was wrong about having one sausage patty in the fridge. Without that, no bread, and with only one egg, I decided to have surimi salad for breakfast.

ETA: BMCRA is down again. It worked last night after I got home, and it worked this morning. But they’ve been Tango-Uniform for the past (about) three hours.

Ain’t nothin’ wrong with surimi. I like it with a splash of aji mirin, a smaller splash of sesame oil, black sesame seeds, and shredded cuke.

This was pre-made by the corner market.

Nothin’ wrong with that, either.

We’re under heat advisory, severe t-storm with hail, and tornado warnings for the rest of the day. I think Imma hit the road so’s I’m not stuck on the wrong side of the lake.

I still need to shed about 40#, and according to what I’ve read, I should eat from 1000-1200 calories per day. I aim to the low end under the assumption that I probably don’t measure perfectly and I’ll tend to go over. And really, if I avoid sweets, it’s easy for me to get plenty to eat in my desired range. OK, I get my sweets from fruit, but an apple isn’t the same as a handful of oreos!

She’s gained 2#, and she was a tad porky to begin with. Someone in this house keeps giving her snacks, despite being told that a big part of her breathing issues are due to her weight. Pisses me off, he does…

As for the car, I didn’t need gloves, but I did need a big bag to collect all the random receipts that had fallen under the seats. It’s at the shop now to be inspected and such.

MIL and her friends went to Salsa’s for lunch. Dammit, that’s where we wanted to go, so we ended up going to Red Robin. Then we gassed FCD’s Santa Cruz and ran to Lowe’s. On the way back, we got a text saying MIL was safely ensconced at home. We got here shortly thereafter.

FCD is now napping and MIL is nattering on to BIL. I’m not sure what I need to do. Waiting to get the bad news from the shop about the Elantra. FCD drove it there and he said it definitely needs front brakes. I hope the tires are OK. Anyway, we shall see.

Guess I’ll do some reclining for a while.

At least they’re getting along …

I want to move and get a place of my own, but it’s difficult and complicated.

Housing has gotten so expensive that I worry about young people ever being to enjoy having a place of their own. I wish you much success in your endeavor.

Is that a guy thing? Dad used to follow his cat around with her bowl of food and the poor kitty was so overweight she had problems jumping on the couch.

Hubs is also a fan of giving GG larger amounts of people fud and treats than I do. When a cat does something as drastic as lose a pound or two, he practically force feeds them. I don’t want to talk about how much he paid for the last box of pouches he bought, your eyes would get sore from all of the rolling.

They hide it so well. I hope good news happens. I agree that vet visits demand extra treats!

That’s because we get in the habit of putting spoken lists into “temporary storage” while reading or writing something down goes into “permanent storage” and gets lost among all of the other random stuff we have in there.

Or at least that’s my theory!

My lunch plans didn’t work. Hubs came out to the table to eat and then started messing around in the shed. Happily the long suffering postal carrier showed up with our daily box delivery and one of them had the repeater Hub’s ordered because the signal in his room was not up to snuff.

When I told him, he closed up the shed and came back in and started messing around with his computer. Now he’s load testing it by killing world bosses. All of this is a good thing in my mind. He really did need to allow himself to take some time off.

While I agree that everything needs to be done, I disagree that it all needs to be done right now.

My boss (the program manager) spent Wed-Sun in Mexico, and when he tried to come home on Sunday he wound up getting stuck in Houston due to hurricane Beryl. He wasn’t able to get out until today; he and his wife should be on a plane right now. :crossed_fingers: Of course he doesn’t have his corporate laptop or phone with him, so the other program leads and I have been filling in – with me as the primary POC for our customer, who is both needy and not the clearest communicator. I’m always able to be patient and tactful (and slightly deferential) when needed, but they aren’t my strong suits and that stuff wears me out…it has been an exhausting few days! Plus this is the bajillionth day in a row of +100°F weather, which just makes me not want to go anywhere/do anything other than try to balance my in-home comfort with keeping the heat pump from burning itself out (fans are the best!). Hopefully my boss gets home alright and it storms later, as forecast.

As for the OP, moving is in my blood. I was a bit of an Army/DoD brat, and moved pretty often as a kid: for some people that makes them want to never move again once they no longer have to, but I found that I like it. After graduating from college, I moved 10 times in 20 years: I landed in my current rental 10 years ago, and have only stayed here this long because of the dog. It’s really hard to find good rentals with a pet (this listing actually said “no pets,” but I called to ask how firm that was and kinda talked my property manager into it), and it’s a pretty good house with a big yard and in a great location so I’m alright with staying here for as long as I have Bailey. I’m definitely moving after she dies, though, with an eye to returning to townhouse living once I don’t need the yard anymore (trading my current abundant exterior square footage for a little more interior square footage). Every abode has quirks that start getting on my nerves after a few years – especially true of rental properties – and I like being able to move on to a new set of quirks relatively easily. I can’t imagine ever saying “this is it; I’m never moving again” as long as I’m single, but I could see maybe staying in the next place for a while. I’m hoping to really take my time with that decision/selection. As soon as I could afford it I started paying the movers to pack me, which takes care of the part I hate the most, and I always move on a Thursday (the movers are usually a little cheaper and more available, plus I can have the locksmith, etc., come on Friday and still have the weekend to settle in). These days, the worst part of moving is the cost: I expect to pay more rent in the next place, and estimate that the security deposit + first month’s rent + movers will equal ~$8500. A lot of times, my decisions to stay put for another year are just about $$.

Notre-Dame de Paris est finis!

Here is the completed Section 4, representing the years 1225-1786:

And here is the finished set, which I wrapped up on Sunday evening:

That’s very cool!

I definitely don’t have the creativity for MOCs; luckily, I’m really happy just following build instructions. Notre Dame was set #16 (#1 was in March 2023), and has the most pieces to date (4,383). It’s not the largest set, though: the grand piano and the globe are both bigger. I did quite a bit of display rearranging while figuring out where to put the finished cathedral.

I’m pretty sure the Lamborghini Countach will be next, but I’m trying to take a bit of a break before ordering #17.

So far my sets don’t have a theme; they’re just things that I like. I dipped my toe in the Star Wars world earlier this year with R2, and that could be a slippery slope – but what could really get me in trouble are the Harry Potter sets. I’m deliberately not buying any of those (for now), because I think if I started I’d wind up needing an extra bedroom!

That would drive me insane: when I’m sick, I just want to be left alone!

Oh no! Sounds like she’s recovering, but ugh.

Nice!

Piano is the only instrument I’m willing to hear solo when it comes to jazz, but around here there’s almost always also a bass and/or drums. It’s hard to find true solo performances…which I don’t really mind, but it might be nice to hear some solo jazz piano (from someone like Mr. Green) every now and then.

Yay!!

:crossed_fingers:

I don’t think it works that way. She was likely trained to simply card everyone (which is much easier for staff than, say, a “card everyone who looks under 30” policy), but it’s really at the venue’s discretion whether to card at all – which is why her supervisor was able to say it was OK to serve you and Mr. The Cane. At least in Virginia, there is no legal requirement to check ID; the only law is that those drinking must be at least 21. So there’s no such thing as illegally being served unless you’re under 21.

Was it maybe Guillane-Barre syndrome?

More :crossed_fingers: …!

You know better how things work out here and I’m super happy to know that she wasn’t risking all of those dire consequences (WOOT! Speeled that right!). I was going by what I’ve been told in AZ, it is so much nicer out here. (Not to mention that the waitress looked pretty sad about potentially missing out on the drink tips because Hubs also ordered icewaterwithlemon, please instead of a soda that would add to our bill.)

Ignorance fought, thank you!

Notre-Dame looks amazing, it must have been so much fun to be able to “look in the windows” during construction. Which part do you need to set on fire?

I’m a fan of string instruments. I seriously like listening to fiddlers and learned how much I loved Cellos after watching these cuties playing. Blurred because Elton John once called this the most homoerotic video he’s ever seen. I don’t see it, but whatever.

Back when I was working in a big warehouse filled with County records, there were homes behind the alley. I met several of the neighbors while I was out on my smoke breaks and one of them was a very nice and VERY deaf old man. He was going through his shed, trying to get a yard sale organized before moving into a care facility and must have turned a radio on without noticing. The radio was tuned to a station that played chamber music and I just loved stepping out the door of that sterile and depressing warehouse into an equally gray alley and hearing soft chamber music.

It was soft enough that my coworkers didn’t notice until I pointed it out and, so while I could have taken the time to tell the radio owner about the enchanting music, I figured that nobody else could hear it either.

Until the day of the speaker war. The neighbor who was renting the place next to the radio guy got upset one day and started playing loud metal music and increased the volume so much during the day that the paper filled banker boxes started shimmying around on the shelves.

Other neighbors called LE and a bunch of them showed up. Of course we all went out to see the happenings and that is when we learned that loud neighbor had been hearing the chamber music every morning when he left for work and just couldn’t take it anymore. He got cited for something, I don’t remember and one of the cops pushed the radio neighbor’s flashing light doorbell and the radio went quiet.

tl:dr Don’t get into a speaker war with a deaf man, you won’t win.

There’s yer theme!

We got another frog-strangler this afternoon, of course as I’m driving in a semi-unfamiliar ‘hood without G.P.S. (the getting-turned-back-on-of being the sole purpose of precisely this errand … sigh ) so having roughly successfully completed said errand (at least on my end of things; my dad’s gotta play ball and he’s being such a turd lately that even my mother has taken my side!!) I am consoling myself - and hopefully continuing to get my unhappy G.I. back in, ah, somewhat happier gear - with some fresh potstickers and a cuppa egg nogg soup, while congratulating myself on not getting my lil’ hatchback stuck in any of the ridiculous lakes backed-up water that went halfway up the wheels of the car in front of me at one or three spots.

Howzzat for a long-ass sentence?

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and got them stored in all the various places they go to live in da cave until eaten. Much sloth, faff, and RDOS stuff then ensued. Sup got cooked and et. So nummy as we had not had shrimpies 'n grits in a while. In a bit it shall be Netflix, chill, and popcorn time.

Hippie hope all goes well with the treatments.

BooFae it might take some practice to be able to both swan and faff about, but I think I am up to the challenge. I really should go find my academic regalia. I think it’s in one of those suit bags in the guest room closet. Yay for new car battery!

shoe I think it would be inappropriate to don academic regalia, swan, and faff in public. OK the Pubic Sto’ is classier than :astonished:Wally*World :astonished: so maybe I could get away with it there.

JtC glad hubs is takin’ some downtime. Fried chikin livers and scrambled aigs sounds like a fine way to break fast, indeed!

doggio don’t be silly! I reserve gold lamé for thongs, tube tops, and formal attire.

Lily hope lovely wife has an easy time of it and gets some good eats after the colonoscopy.

VanGo ICK! Hope you got home and inside before all that got cranked up.

MG here’s hopin’ you can move and get a place of your own soonest.

Oopsie here’s hopin’ boss gets back today. I am most impressed by Notre Dame! I, too, want to be left alone when I’m sick. So does OYKW.

Oh, my.

It’s a helluva performance in the audio sense (lurves me some AC/DC) but the video is … utterly and totally SFW.

Still.

Great story, but this part reminded me of the scene in “Shawshank Redemption” where he locks the warden out of his own office just so he can … broadcast opera through the loudspeakers.

“I have no idea to this day what those two Eye-talian ladies were singing about…”

Yeah, still. But not just homoerotic…

For those who are worried about what they might see…nobody touches anyone. One man briefly exposes his neck. Children are scolded. I’m pretty sure I saw shoe in the audience, she was the little girl who got scolded for waving her arms in the air. The audience was fully overdressed as well.

Um.

That would be egg drop soup.

Christmas just gets earlier, doesn’t it?

I was kind of wondering :).

Buddy’s home and for a cat who’s supposedly quite ill, he’s acting healthy and has quite the appetite, which means Allie’s getting extra goodies too, so she’s not unhappy about it. Both have lost some weight recently, so my position is if they want extra calories, fine with me, they’ll get extra treats, extra servings of canned goo, and such. Allie even recently showed some interest in some cheese I was eating (I gave her a sample, and yes, she ate it), which is unusual for her. In the over 12 years I’ve known her, she’s nibbled human food maybe twice that I can recall, and the other instance was a bit of graham cracker.

We need to leave within about the next 45 minutes for her checkup. She dislikes carriers and car travel as much as Buddy does, so it’ll have been a less-than-happy day for both cats.

I would love to see what the 2-cellos look like doing a real performance. How much back-up do they have, etc.

shoe Was wondering about egg nog soup. Might be good on some vanilla ice cream?

Made it home before the big rains. Looks like we’ll be safe from tornadoes. One touched down up towards Buffalo. Now I’ve got the delightful it just poured, but it’s still hot and cloudy out humidity.

Well played.

Would she like a small glass of wine, with her cheese and crackers?

Wait’ll the sun comes back out. That’ll learn ya!
