(Old) Ain't gonna move no more in the MMP

Well, it’s also a MIL thing. She used to make her dog a piece of buttered toast every morning, in addition to kibbles. And she was always tossing Higgs pieces of cookies or crackers, tho she has stopped. Spousal unit, however, WILL.NOT.LISTEN!!! I can’t get it thru his skull that he’s partly responsible for the problems Higgs has with breathing because she’s too fat. The man makes me crazy sometimes!!

Speaking of weight loss, MIL has dropped from 101.2 to 98.6 in about a week. Not good. And coupled with the vagueness and forgetfulness, it’s not very encouraging. FCD thinks the end is closing in. I just don’t know.

I ingested some leftovers for supper. I’ll have some fruit later - I still have some cherries and apples, but no more peaches or oranges.

Time to crawl back into my recliner.

So MY sets (as opposed to ZakBoy who has lots) are (as close to purchase order as I can get):

  • Yellow Submarine (one of my favs and the one that gets the most comments)
  • Saturn V
  • Lunar Lander
  • Space Shuttle (frustrating build since I made a mistake in the front landing gear that I had to fix post build, but also SUPER cool)
  • Darth Vader helmet-head thing (I hate these and will never buy another one)
  • Friends Apartment (bought for the wife, she had the Cafe one and I thought she would like it - it’s unbuilt in the unopened box and I’ll get to it eventually)
  • ISS
  • Sesame Street
  • Pooh Bear Tree (unbuilt)
  • Mars Rover (my first Technics build - wow)
  • Artemis Space Launce System (unbuilt as noted)
  • NASA Lunar Rover (on order)

There are a few other minor sets plus the ones I get for free from lego.com, but those are the big builds.

My tendency is to get a set and let it sit for a while - then I’ll get the urge and build it.

FYI, the MOC sets come with full instructions and a shopping list for Lego Pick-and-Build. You pay $10-20 for the instructions and then have to buy the bricks on your own. Not for the faint of heart, but not ‘must be a Lego master’ hard.

Yesterday was fine. Today I am having discharge from tha Leep, which is normal. I’ll be happy in about 3 weeks when all is healed.
I am having salad for supper, reading my library books; I have 6 altogether.

What color are her feet? When FIL was in his end days, the hospice nurses pointed out that his feet were white because his heart couldn’t circulate the blood well enough to keep color in them. they said the end was going to be in a few days, and they were right.

FIL passed in his sleep, I hope the same happens with your MIL…except for the part that Hubs always blames himself for sleeping while his father was dying in his sleep.

The next door neighbors have a dog that is obviously a couch potato. They also have a young cat that they allow out once in a while. Today I saw the cat in their backyard sniffing around and then the dog ran over and sniffed under kitty’s tail. The poor idiot didn’t count of offended kitty having claws and ended up backed into a fence corner while kitty slapped the heck out of doggy’s neck and shoulders.

I shouldn’t have laughed, but I did.

Hi all: First look at the MMP today at 6pm. Just 40 posts to go. Saddle up!

My day was good. About 90% healthy now. Woke up at sunrise, stripped and washed the bedding, sheveled, then washed the towels, then fed. All so the housekeepers wouldn’t have to touch diseased stuff. I let them install the clean sheets. I hid outside while they cleaned inside and vice versa. I checked with them yesterday morning to see if they were OK coming today despite the Crud and they’d said yes. I’d have been perfectly happy had they said no.

Yakked w a pilot pal for about 90 minutes. Got some administrivia done, even more ordinary laundry, ran the dishwasher, and received a furniture delivery: the TV stand / wall unit / fake fireplace I’d ordered back in April that was supposedly in stock. Welp, it’s in my stock now. Fits great, and the look really finishes the room. Now to get rid of the temporary one.

Found out today that a special order housewares gizmo I’d ordered in late May had come in sometime in the next week. But nobody had thought to notify me to come get it. So there it sat. For 6 weeks. So much for modern automation never forgetting an order. Grrrr.

Decided to combine retrieving that with actual adult dinner out. So drove off to get my gizmo then off to nearby dinner where I am now: Maggie McFly’s. Sitting outside on a nearly deserted patio on a warm gray late afternoon a bit less than 2 hours before sunset. Just finished Course 1: a crock of very hearty French Onion soup topped w the usual bread and cheese. And 2 onion rings. I’m letting that settle while I yak w y’all. Not sure what the main course will be.

As to y’all

Yaay for Shoe’s free goulash and early out!

Damn, Coppertone, but as Shoe said, now you know. Better than being ghosted or worse yet, jerked along for 2 months.

Flyboy, that is just brutal. I will never say a bad thing about any commute I have ever done. Not even the one that started at noon and ended at sunrise the next day.

Hippie you win the thread with that news. You’ll be darn tired of the grind after 8 weeks times 5 days. But if that amounts to one and done for this thing, you’ll be sitting pretty once the “sunburn” wears off. Here’s hoping it’s as simple and successful as can be.

FCM: sounds like a good day: MIL out your hair for a bunch of it, and well tuckered out by lunch w her pals. Even if FCD is doing his damnednest to cripple or kill Higgs.

There’s been a real style of late for bars or restaurants to invent cutesy “you can only get 'em here” names for what are otherwise pretty standard cocktails. Two of my favorite cocktail encyclopedia sites have never heard of a “pink umbrella”. Good bet the name, if not the drink, is unique to JtC’s local haunt.

Nettie: good luck w the cat ranchin’ today. I predict a lot of feline mopery. ETA: glad to hear Cat 1’s trip went well.

oopsie: Your ND is really, really cool. And I concur w your approach to residences and moving. Moving is about optimizing your surroundings, both at home and out there in however big you think your “local” area is, for how you want to live now, not how you wanted (or worse yet had to) live back then.

Nice cellos there JtC.

Me too. Although I suppose if you take ordinary Holiday egg nog, add the usual rum, heat it up, and eat it out of a bowl with a spoon, it is pretty much cream soup! And as VanGo almost said, Eggnog does in fact make a great ice cream topping. Sorta turns vanilla into Heath Bar.

Agree w Cookie that jazz piano is better w/o accompaniment. Glad you got to hear a real talent, not just some local hack.

And I did it! I made it to the bottom of the thread.

My second course was a “chicken buddha bowl” which sounds pretty oxymoric to me. Vegan beef anyone? Anyhow a vaguely oriental stir fry over brown rice. Plenty good and more than I could finish. Preparing to pay the lady and return to the domicile.

I am pleased that despite being out and about for over 2 hours now I’m not feeling that dread fatigue washing over me like in prior days after just a few minutes. I’ll be glad to get home, but not desperate to do so.

Humpday is almost in the books and soon it’s off to Thor’s Day. Here’s hoping the lightning isn’t too Thor-like at anyone’s house tonight or tomorrow.

Cheers all!!1!

Just what was in that Manhattan? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

And likely still zoned agricultural. My late Uncle Jim was the guy with horses on his acreage he purchased in the sixties. Developments went up all around him in the eighties and they bitched about three horses on five acres. His answer was to add a goat and a couple of pigs.

Here’s to a positive outcome hippy.

I’m wondering if his anemia is related to the flea infestation. I know that fleas can cause that.

Not necessarily. My mom was the one who overfed the dogs snacks. Considering that she had dementia, she got a little bit of a pass though.

Dog lover that I am, I would have laughed at a cat bitch slapping a dog.

Irked, got everything done that needed done before taking a couple of days off, gassed up the car, came home, did a load of laundry and am about half finished packing. I want to be out the door by 0730 tomorrow. At the rate that I travel, what with a small doggy and an old lady bladder, it usually takes about 8 hours to get to Dad’s.

Well, back to packing.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Hearing rumblings in the distance. Possible t-boomers in the next hour or so, but not much after. Gotta water my patch in the morning.

Also gotta go back to Lowes - 50-50 chance and I grabbed the wrong belt for the dryer. Plus I need to go to Wal-Mart for a few things, then a swing by Food Lion for cokes on sale. And I’ll drop off the laundry and dryer stuff at Daughter’s place somewhere in there.

Who knows what other adventures await??

My favorite cello video:

This is what runs on the soundtrack in my head when I am content…

Oh my, how calming. Thank you for sharing

Howdy. Read it all. Too tired to provide differentiated commentary. Today is my mom’s birthday. We didn’t do much, though I did get her some very yummy soft pretzels that she wanted. More tomorrow. Going to bed soon.

There is no shortage of sidemen in MSP. I think he just prefers to play solo.

Had a pretty violent t-storm come through earlier today. Torrential rain, lightning, hail, graupel, the works. Now we’re due for some very hot weather and high humidity for a few days.

Good evening all. Managed to watch the England-Netherlands game while pedaling calories off so got my exercise for the day in. Outside of that I have not set foot outdoors, and will sloth for the night.

On problem with this weight loss thing; I was wearing 46" waist jeans/pants/shorts less than three years ago; then about 18 months ago I had to go to 44" and about 8-9 months ago I was at 42" and now those are beginning to get too loose (as in, if I forget my belt, I have to have a hand free to keep hiking them up), so may have to do some shopping for 40" waists. While it is a nice thing that it shows my weight and conditioning is so much better, is does mean a outlay of $$$ every year for clothes that are otherwise in perfectly decent shape. Well, at least the Purple Heart collection truck will be pleased…

Flyboy, I remember a time I was doing situps, got about 50 at a time but just stopped making it a habit, probably would be able to do your 5 at a time but no promise for more. I really do need to get with the gym folks about what weights and exercises I can do to firm up some spots, now that the weight is where I want it. My longest commute was about 40 miles but was mostly back roads and not to busy, plus I only had to do it for about 3 months. Hope the car fixing goes as planned.

Truth.

Cookie, I’m trying to remember if I ever had a spit-take; probably did but it’s not coming to me right now. Nice story.

Nettie, glad the feline appointments went well, best wishes to Buddy.

VanGo, with that weather report, just be sure you don’t end up in the lake! Glad to see you made it home.

FCM, I still think that’s a pretty miniscule calorie intake, but you know your metabolism better than I. I try to keep my intake around 2000-2400 calories/day and with 500-800 calories burned by exercise the balance is below what is recommended for me. Best wishes on the weight shedding. And wish there was some low-cal/fat-free treats FCD could be giving Higgs.

MG, I know, and you being in a big city (IIRC) makes it even tougher. Have you ever considered re-locating? Best wishes.

Oopsie, lovely work on Notre-Dame.

JtC, I remember watching that some time ago from another recommendation, not a big Cello fan but that was pretty good stuff. And thanks for the story on the chamber music and the loud person’s comeuppance. And an additional chortle or two on the dog and cat story.

Shoe, keep getting better. As for long-ass sentences, I found this tidbit:

Pilot, courteous of you to think about the housekeeper’s health; I imagine a lot of their clients couldn’t care less. And glad you seem to be recovering nicely.

red, safe travels.

Whew, keeping up with you folks is a full-time job now and then. Take care now and I’ll see what’s doing on Thorsday.

You may consider shopping thrift stores. There are quite a few folks out there who gain / lose weight and donate some barely worn clothing (you are one of those donors). GW jeans are only $7.99 without any discounts.

Baby carrots. When I’m packing my lunch in the morning, Nelson can hear the bag open and comes running for his tribute. They’re sweet, cold and crunchy.

Fixing to take Nelson out shortly, then hit the hay.

{ shakes Magic 8-Ball }

{ signs point to Not Great }

There are constant miscommunication issues between the store he keeps driving to (3k miles from me) and the one out here (I’m guessing not the bestest of training at either) all exacerbated by his hearing aid issues, but the real problem is he reacts to every tiny bump or oops in life in general with RAGE! RAGE!

I mean, he’s always kinda been this way, but it’s gotten 1000% worse in the last few years. Boredom (the man has no hobbies besides Fox News or whatever he moved on to) is making it worse.

She may be a colossal bitch, but I do feel bad for my mother. She’s stuck with him.

Sucked even worse, years ago, right after Other Shoe died.
To hear your mother bitch about your dad is one thing, but to hear someone raggin’ on their spouse when you just lost yours …

Anyway, he’s kicking up a fuss because I signed up for a nicer phone (cuz I know me, imma live with this one till the sun explodes) and I have explained repeatedly that I planned to pay for the phone, as it was a separate charge.
The store here assigned me a different number than whatever store he went to 3,000 miles away, so the account was closed - somehow that’s MY fault - so more RAGE!! ensued - and I get that I sound ungrateful but he’s being a complete asshole about every step of the process.

I should’ve just found one of those cheap-ass ghetto phones and washed my hands of this nonsense.

ETA: dryer is making a loud squeaking noise. FML I just wanted clean sheets after the hot flash from several days ago, so I can finally have a quiet night in a clean bed.

YouTube suggests … fixes that may be beyond my abilities.

ETA II: Thanks, dad! I irritation-cleaned my kitchen floor (mopping with rose scented Mrs Meyer) so I could nicely arrange all my little rugs (which had been lumped up directly in front of the microwave, because fridge shenanigans) so at least my kitchen is now slightly less of an untidy mess.

Allie’s home, we’re currently awaiting bloodwork on both in order to deal with followups.

Buddy’s got a second medicine now. They and we jointly decided to try him on a steroid in case the anemia is related to some sort of immune issue. He really does not act like an ill cat, TBH. He was VERY energetic about trying to access the cabinet above the fridge, which he can’t open because my KitchenAid mixer is blocking the doors. Quite the kitty tantrum about not being able to get in there, really.

Allie needs a couple of immunizations once her bloodwork is back. We also need to wage SERIOUS war on fleas. Well, so far, they’ve gotten CapStar (oral flea pill), both Advantage and Revolution (vet OKed the combo, saying fleas seem to be developing some resistance to Advantage and it won’t hurt either cat to get both), and are sporting Quivanta essential-oil-based flea collars. We’re also liberally treating the apartment with Wondercide flea and tick spray (we chose the cedarwood scent). The fleas WILL die!!!

Happy Hump Day!

It was HOT today.
It was 82 degrees at 630 this morning.

It’s been very windy all day, but it’s been a hot wind.
We finally got a little storm tonight and the temp dropped from 94 to 78.

My son has been wiped out from the heat. There is no AC where he irks, but they can have all the free water they want and are encouraged to take frequent breaks.
Tonight is snowball night, I’m sure everybody is looking forward to that.

Moonday night, he fell asleep several times and the guy next to him had to wake him up.
I don’t know the guy, but I think I would like him. My son said he (playfully) teases him all night until he gets a response. If my son won’t talk to him, well then, he’ll talk my son’s ear off.
My friend who is the big boss said they like to put the talkers next to my son. Either he’ll learn to talk, or they’ll learn to shut up.

Good luck with the treatments Hippie

If **FCD’**s feet get anything like mine, I admire him for all he does.
I’ve had mine go numb up to the knees, but today it was only the balls of my feet and the toes.
I’ve found it helps to massage my feet every day. It would help even more if I stopped falling asleep sitting up in the chair.
I started taking B1 today and i’ll see if that helps. B12 has helped, B6 does horrible things to my tummy.

The AC came with a drain hose, but we haven’t needed it yet.

Th AC in the living room, it probably is a hole cut in the wall. Or somebody boarded up the window around it. It has its own outlet.
The portable one is quieter, and has a remote, which is very convenient.

Red, I have had yet to have a dog that likes carrots or green beans.
My mastiff was crazy for bananas, and another dog would go through 5-6 apples a day as they fell off the tree. My current group will eat cabbage and broccoli.

None are overweight so I don’t worry about how many treats they get.

I hope they don’t get the zoomies again tonight.
The last two nights they have been tearing through the house and yard between 10 and11 PM. After they are done, Misiu will walk past the bed and poke me in the belly with his nose to let me know he’s going to bed.
So thoughtful.

Noce work, Ooopsie
I’m impressed, I could never do it.

Like you, I prefer to be left alone when I am sick.
I just want somebody to take care of the dogs and bring me some food or water, then go away.

Most every time I’ve been in the hospital I didn’t have visitors. Sometimes the nurses will say something, and I say, I don’t want visitors. One of my friends is okay, she brings a book. She loves to visit me in the hospital because she can read without interruption.

My friend could have had Guillain-Barre Syndrome, but I don’t think that was it.
She was around 14? at the time, long time ago. My father took me to see her once, and all I remember is how terrified she looked. We had grown up together, lived across the street from each other, but by this time we had moved on to other friend groups.
She hung with a group I didn’t like to be around.

My son just texted that irk was down for an hour, so he will probably have OT Friday. They are only 1/8 of the way done. He already had OT on Moonday.

He’s going to be exhausted and I won’t get much help this weekend.

That’s positive!

As far as fleas … wash whatever you can, as often as you can, in as hot water as the item allows.

Rugs (bathmats!) curtains, sheets, pillowcases, that throw blanket on the side of your couch …

The sprays & chemicals are all well and good - until the fleas develop immunity - but mechanically washing those flea eggs down the drain in hot, soapy water will do a world of good towards preventing future generations from even hatching out.

ETA: this is one of many reasons I loathe installed carpet.

Nelson will eat apples and broccoli, but I give them to him in limited quantities because OMG, the gas that little guy can produce.

red My friend’s dog convinced him that she likes carrots. Only to find said carrots stashed around the house.

I avoided the terrible weather, but it’s still much too hot here.

Took my lovely wife out for Asian food to replenish her strength after a couple of days of lemon jello and non-red sport drinks. Tomorrow’s temperature is looking good for yard work and some errands. I have a Zoom author talk tomorrow evening, so I won’t want to be out in the grass pollen too long.
