I just checked and all seem to be above the surface of the planet except the one who joined in April 1999. She posted a total of 74 times in 20 years and all those posts seem to have gone. Hope she is still okay.
I believe I lost two to the Grim Reaper although I don’t recall for sure if they died before or after we noticed the feature. Both were true friends though and rarely does a week go by that I don’t have some memory of them even if its just “I wonder if ---- saw that post?”
I may have asked this before but whenever someone becomes officially dead (IE - the SDMB is notified and confirms it) do they disappear from the list of friends? Their posts remain (and I can name two reasons I know this ) but I don’t know if there is some other form of account closure.
- Hey! Inigo actually used the search function before posting!
- Sarcasm doesn’t translate well in a written format.
- Dopers are a sarcastic bunch
- Epstein didn’t kill himself
- The “friend” function is a sort of nudge away from chagrin when it is unclear whether a post is snarkyattacky or sarcasticfriendly. There are a handful of folks here who get generous interpretations of their posts because they’ve let me know in advance they don’t consider me a pointless dickweed all the time.
Sometimes I think ALL my friends have been imaginary. - Uncle Max (Calvin & Hobbes)
On the internet, they are.
Say it ain’t so, fish!
I know I am.
The median number of friends a Facebook user has is 200.
Any guess as to what is this for Straight Dope [for regular posters]? 3?
In other words this forum attracts mostly near hermits…
Who said that?
You did. I couldn’t possibly have. I don’t exist.
I’m basically a reverse solipsist.
If everyone I went to high school with shows up here, I’m leaving.
