I just read the thread on SNL and I was just wondering if there is anyone else here who loves to watch Royal Canadian Air Farce as well and if so what their favourite skits were? Or the characters/parodies.
Some of my favs are:
The Confused Philosopher
News From Away
English As a Second Language News
and
A Canadian Moment (In the Tim Horton’s of course)
What are yours?
I haven’t seen RCAF in a long time, but my unquestionable favourite was Amy della Pompa (who I think was on the radio). I also liked Gilbert Smythe-Biteme and Sister Bonaventure, the Cursing Nun.
My favorite is the Quebec language police.
Purée de la detonation
Crapeau en la cavité
Richard patchée
Brilliant! Wish they had also done “bubble and squeak”, though.
My favourite is definitely “The Confused Philosopher”, as a recurring skit.
And of course the Chicken Cannon.
As a one-time thing, though, that would have to be the first show they had Preston Manning on, with Don Ferguson as Preston Manning interviewing him. He tried so hard not to say “reee-foooooorm” but just couldn’t do it.
Does anybody really like “English as a Second Language Television”?
I like Mike … from Canmore. I also laughed my ass off at the new year’s special when they spoofed Rick Mercer’s rant from 22 Minutes, and Rick showed up to show them how to do it properly. Hilarious stuff sometimes.
My favourite Chicken Cannon bit was when they got Mr. Dressup to fire the Cannon at Barney. Man, was that funny!
Ignorant American coming through…
What is this exactly? What’s it about? Where is it?
I liked the New Years Rick Mercer spoof as well. The whole New Years thing was hilarious specially with David Suzuki who was ‘naked’.
Breckinshire: Royal Canadian Air Farce is a comedy troup Luba Goy, Roger Abbot, Don Ferguson and John Morgan. They have a weekly show on CBC (so I don’t think you’d get it in the states unless you have Satellite) They have all sorts of skits having to do with different things usually taken from Canadian polotics but also some from the world as well.
There is stuff like The Confused Philospher who asks those sort of questions like “Why do they call it tourist season if you can’t shoot people?” and when the voiceover and music comes on he looks around confused and asks “Wheres that voice coming from?” or “Where’s that music coming from?”
News From Away is given by a couple of guys supposedly fishermen from the Martimes. English as a Second Language News is given by two of them like their foreigners with stuff like “And now lets look at sports” then they hold up a sign that says ‘Sports’ and they stare at it.
Chicken Cannon is this cannon where they pick a target of the week. Everything from Pokemon to Gov’t officials and they shoot stuff at them like lobster (plastic), food (beans fish etc) to show their derision.
Gilbert Smythe-Biteme is a guy who criticises tv shows actors etc hes a critic. Also (according to him) WTN (Woman’s Television Network) is made up of all his ex-wives who make the shows expressively to annoy him. Its interesting seeing his take on the Oscars, Grammies etc.
Sister Bonaventure, The Cursing Nun is just that a Nun who usually gives her take on things while cursing (which is totally bleeped out)
Here is their site www.airfarce.com they have clips and stuff on there as well. The season just ended recently though.
