AIRPLANE! vs. BLAZING SADDLES - Which is the funnier movie?

By the way, do you happen to know what ever happened to that guy?

“Airplane!” is much funnier. “Blazing Saddles” is at times incredibly funny, but it has longer stretches of less funny. “Airplane!” just delivers joke after joke after joke, and the landing rate, no pun intended, is incredibly high.

There is a pretty solid argument to be made that “Airplane!” is the funniest movie ever made.

“Blqazing Saddles” is wonderfully funny, but this is a hell of a fight.

thank you

Sigh:(

Don’t worry, eschereal. I’ve got your back.

“Somebody go back and get a whole shitload of dimes!”

“Funny” is obviously very subjective. I, for instance, think Delicatessen is funnier than Caddyshack, and for pure comedy, Casablanca beats both of those handily.

I have to admit, I laughed out loud when I first noticed that the sign for the German Legation in the French-ruled, mostly Arabic-speaking city is printed in… English.

Right, then. Write it a hundred times before dawn or I’ll cut your balls off!

That’s because English is a universal language.

After a day of watching men get all hot and sweaty in a gym, yeah.

I don’t enjoy the breaking of the fourth wall in Blazing Saddles; perhaps I did 20 years ago, but not now. Somehow, I can still accept it in Holy Grail, but it’s defacto more absurd, so, okay.

“But where can I find such a man?”

Well, I really hated the way Kenneth Branaugh kept breaking the fourth wall as that Hamlet character.

“Why am I asking you?”

In another thread, folks are expressing their disdain for clip episodes of comedy shows. Well, that’s the same problem as with Airplane!. Clip shows, like Airplane!, have a high density of funny jokes all bunched together… but because the jokes aren’t connected to each other, it doesn’t work.

Is there anyone here who prefers Airplane! over Blazing Saddles, but who also doesn’t like clip shows? Why?

I don’t see the connection. A clip show is combining re-run material in some sort of manufactured combination b/c the writers are too lazy (or too under the gun, timewise) to come up with new material. How on earth is Airplane! comparable to a clip show? It’s not even a set of unrelated skits, like The Kentucky Fried Movie.

I would assume many folks don’t like clip shows because they’ve seen the scenes before, and in a better context. When I first watched Airplane!, I’d seen *nothing *like it before.

I did see part of Airplane II. What I saw of it rather highlighted and amplified the weaknesses Airplane.

I do not seem to remember any sequel to Blazing Saddles, or for that matter, any other Mel Brooks movie. I tend to feel that lack of sequels says, “We have said all that we think there is to say on this matter and do not care to cheapen the subject by beating it to death”.

But the only difference there is that most of the gags in Airplane! never had any context.

No but some years ago, I was informed that a remake of Blazing Saddles was proposed - by Chris Pratt. I’ve never been able to confirm the story and I suspect that I was told this by someone who just wanted to spike my blood pressure and give me that cerebral hemorrhage he’s been praying for.

NOTICE TO HOLLYWOOD: Do not try to remake BLAZING SADDLES! We don’t want it. You’re not going to do it correctly so don’t even try.
