Some massage therapists offer extra services for tips. Others don’t. The ones that don’t are very skilled at keeping it non-sexual. Their body language and attitude practically screams hands off. If a guy said or did anything wrong they’d put him in his place quick.

I’ve had a few massages when my back was bothering me. There was no way I would have said anything wrong. They were all business and it was obvious they weren’t there for anything else.

I can imagine that much of her surprise was that the offer was from a high profile, ex-VP of the US, who also may be remembered for his wife’s demand for a rating system on audio albums, both positions which many people associate with high moral standards.

It seems odd that a high-profile person like Gore would show up at a toney hotel where everybody recognizes him, arranges for a massage through the hotel staff, then assaults the person who shows up. It doesn’t seem to pass the common sense test.

However, I remember working on a Congressional Delegation that passed through Lisbon (the Black Caucus on its way to observe elections in South Africa) and was shocked that there were local hookers roaming the floor where they were staying and that an all-night party was still in progress when I arrived at 0300. Not only that, they had stolen the key to the “gifts” room and stolen a case of very expensive 20-year old port, then refused to pay for it. Savage got in trouble (not the first, nor the last time) because of what happened on a trip to Africa. The House Ethics Committee concluded that he made improper “sexual advances” to a young female Peace Corps volunteer during a trip to Zaire in 1989. Savage sent a letter of apology: “While in Zaire earlier this year,” it said in part, “if you felt personally offended by any words or actions of mine, I apologize, because I never intended to offend and was not aware that you felt offended at the time.”

So what went on? The Peace Corps volunteer, a 28-year-old female, was invited to have dinner at the U.S. ambassador’s residence, with Savage and others in attendance. She was to brief Savage, a few days later, on the work of the Peace Corps in Africa. After the dinner, she agreed to accompany Savage and several others on a tour of Kinshasha’s night life. Savage insisted that he and the woman ride alone in the chauffeured limousine. According to the woman, Savage, “aggressively and repeatedly fondled her in the back seat of the embassy car despite her strong spoken protests and physical resistance.” “As soon as the . . . cars pulled off from the ambassador’s residence, he grabbed me,” she said. “He tried to force me to have sex with him.” Finally, an information officer from the U.S. embassy escorted her from Savage’s car and took her home. The woman had to be medically evacuated back to the U.S. and underwent six weeks of intensive therapy given to victims of sexual assault. The U.S. ambassador later chewed out Savage for his improper conduct.

The Peace Corps volunteer, who has not been identified, was called “a traitor to the black movement” by Savage.

Bit of a question here.

Let’s assume for a moment a few things…

1. Gore DID get a massage from the lady in question
2. She can positively and absolutely verify that the massage did take place (with something that is beyond question, such as a hotel receipt or similiar)
3. Gore did NOTHING wrong
4. After the massage she went home and recorded a date stamped and verifiable (in terms of when it was recorded) account of some sort of wrongdoing from Al.

What prospect would Gore have of defending himself now? Three years later, who would have any sort of memory at all of a (seemingly) innocuous massage in a hotel - especially if legit massages were a common thing for him. (as they are for me)

Assuming it was more than a therapeutic massage, and she was not that kind of masseuse (which is a bit of a stretch because I’d imagine these distinctions would be clarified beforehand by Gore’s handlers (pardon the pun)…unless she’s willing to cooperate with the prosecutors, then she loses credibility.

Producing DNA stained underwear doesn’t bolster her case, IMO. In fact, it hurts it, because what client expecting a happy ending leaves his underwear ON? If anything, that lends me to believe that he didn’t expect it, but wasn’t resistent to it, either. Big whooping deal.

I’m instantly skeptical of anyone who: 1) Claims to be a victim and then arms herself with a lawyer; and/or b) Demands money w/o also wanting justice through the criminal court.
