Hola!
I really believe that Gore will run in 2008. If I was him, I would jump in now, on the assumption that Bush will faulter before 2004, and Gore can win election. Remember Bush the First was very popular mid-term dealing with a Middle east crisis, and prominant Democrats like Sam Nunn and Dick Gephardt refused to run. Bush fell on his ass because of the economy and Clinton moved in and won the election.
I do not understand why Gore said what he said so early, I would have waited at least until next summer, got my money together and solidified my base. But I am not a professional politician and he is.
Lastly, Gore will want Bush to win in 2004, because this will put him into position in 2008 with a much weaker Republican. Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, Dennis Hastert, or Donald Rumsfeld wont run because of age and lack of pizazz. This is what Nixon did in 1960, he lost a bitter election to JFK, sat out 64 because he knew he lose bad against LBJ and then ran in 68 when the LBJ administration was weak and embattled. Most presidents second terms are not usually successful as the first, and people who bother to vote in the USA like to see new faces.
