I’m shouting Freddy’s Fashion Mart, Bob. Was that just a mistake?
Sharpton lied! People died!
Sharpton lied! People died!
There, is it clear enough for you now?
And yes, I demand that a man have the courage of his convictions. I demand that they say that they were wrong, when they were.
Is that wrong?
I’ve been wrong. I’ll say it right now. I thought the war was justified.
I. Was. Wrong.
See? Go look back through my posts. I was also wrong about the Liberty incident.
Now, fuck you all, you fucking fuck politicians who are so proud of your fucking fuckism that you don’t even see it. You demand the public eat your words when they are right, and believe them when they are wrong. Well, when they aren’t right, they should eat humble pie when they are wrong. You accept all your words, except the wrong ones.
Black ain’t got nothing to do with it. It’s the stupid, son.
Ok, so your argument is that one mistake should not make people hate him so, and that’s true. But, Tawana Brawley isn’t his only little problem. For years, he’s been using his National Action Network, his nonprofit organization, which accepts money from the poor in New York, and lives like a king in Brooklyn. He is stealing from the poor and giving to himself.
His campaign trail in 2004 is rife with vendors (many black, incidentally) who were stiffed on many bills, and staying in $4000 dollar a night suites.
He is living the high life off money that he made through his nonprofit organization of the backs of his own people. Nobody is even bothering to deal with his issues of womanizing, because that is frankly tiny potatoes compared to the big stuff this guy does wrong (well aside from the issue of the National Action Network buying a Mercedes for his girlfriend…)
Cite (from the proudly leftwing press, the Village Voice):
First, the Brawley case isn’t the only shit he’s pulled, but even if it were, it’s a doozy.
How many times does it have to be repeated? It was NOT a “mistake”. He’s the one who started accusing the freaking prosecutor. He’s the one who went to court-Brawley refused to testify.
He was proven wrong, and he’s NEVER recanted. Despite the overwhelming evidence shoved in his face.
Christ on a crutch, don’t you get any of your updates anymore? I thought the State Hospital required former patients to keep their address up to date.
The Cubans killed Kennedy. That’s where you’ve heard the name Raoul. You’re just mixing up the nefarious government assassination plots. Please try to keep up. Get thee to the supermarket for supplies! I suspect you dare leave the house without the tinfoil hat.
Sure, I’ll deal with this one. I think that Sharpton was wrong. I don’t think he was wrong to believe Brawley, or to persist in believing her after she recanted. I think she lied like she said she did. I don’t think that Sharpton made an error of judgment in initially believing her based on his lack of experience, I think he was in good faith. I cannot say why he continued to believe her, it may be that he could not deal with the truth, it may be he genuinely believed someone got to her. I think that was the point of his error in judgment. I believe the cause was Brawley for telling the lies. I am disinclined to believe that Sharpton caused a suicide, I believe that the person who killed himself did it for a combination of reasons mostly stemming from mental health.
But if Sharpton were to come forward with another incident about race and were the champion of it, and people were to dismiss the episode because it’s that Brawley guy, yeah, I think they have to prove to me that they aren’t racists if they want me to believe it. You don’t ignore an injustice because the advocate is flawed. If you do, you are biased against the type of injustice, in this case race. All advocates are flawed.
Well, this is the reason so many hate Bush. It’s not what the message is they are stating, it’s the perceived credibility of the messenger. Sharpton simply has no credibility left in the movement. He’s just better at rallying hateful youth that would be hateful anyway. Kinda like that black asshole Fred Phelps mentioned earlier. Oh wait. Sorry, the racism got in the way. I forgot I can hate someone regardless of skin color.
I didn’t say he CAUSED a suicide. I said he slandered the man who had committed suicide, and accused another of murdering the guy.
The point is, his accusations were patently absurd, and had as much basis as that nutjob from a few years ago who claimed that Bush was kidnapping her and her husband and raping them at random.
Say I want to sell my cow, in order to buy food for my family. Say a person comes up and offers me some magic beans, which I accept. Alas! The magic beans, they are fake, and my poor family continues to starve.
Say I take my other cow out to sell; whom do I trust? The guy that sold me the “magic” beans, or someone else?
Well, the “someone else” I have a neutral view of. The magic bean guy has screwed me once already. I think i’m gonna go with the new guy, here.
To sum up, you’re right; you don’t ignore an advocate just because they’re flawed. You DO, however, take their flaws into account when considering their case.
Let’s get this straigh, Bob. You’re saying that you think Sharpton was right to continue to spout a lie against some people when he knew it to be a lie? It’s okay because of…what, exactly? Perhaps because the lie was against some Whites so that makes it okay in your book? Yeah, I see racism here: Sharpton’s and yours.
