They couldn’t at least wait and settle it somewhere else? They had to go at it mid field in front of the fans and cops?
I wonder if either school’s program will get suspended for the season? My gut tells me something set this fight off and I’d bet it was dirty play. They need to look closely at the game itself. Was their some dirty plays that maybe lead to the coaches fighting?
High school ball can get pretty nasty. There was a kid in my high school class that got his knee messed up in a game. A hard hit after the whistle intended to take him out and it did. Permanently. He never played football again. There’s no sense in that at all.
This is High School sports, so we cannot discount the possibility that both coaches are just raging assholes with inadequacy issues that affect their judgment.
You’re right. It sounds like the Walker head coach was pissed about losing the game. He’s been suspended and an interim coach appointed.
That kid made one heck of a play to score and win the game with only 18 seconds left. It’s a shame the other team’s coach ruined the night for those kids. To their credit, none of the players on either team were involved in the fight. I hope the Walker schools season isn’t over. The state athletic association will decide if the school gets punished.
This is the local newspaper. Not sure how long the links will be active.
I would expect that, somewhere out there, there is a video of the entire game. I’d love to see it and see if we can figure out what set the coach off.
I don’t know of any town in the area around here who doesn’t film their games. Even if the town is somewhat backwards, this is 1980s tech we are talking about here.
They should be barred from future coaching, in my humble opinion. They are grown men who demonstrated, most overtly, an in ability to control themselves. They should be made to understand that there is no place for such in the leadership of young people. That clearly they do not have the required skill set, after such a spectacular fail in a leadership position.
But it’s America, and were talking football here. So there will be some wrist slapping and all will be forgiven, I predict.
