A couple months ago Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore defied a federal court order to remove the ten commandments monument from the rotunda of the building housing the Supreme Court. He was promptly suspended from his post pending trial by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary.
I’m familiar with the concept that justices may be removed through impeachment by the state legislature, but I hadn’t heard of the Court of the Judiciary before this.
Is this an unusual government organ, or do other states (or even the federal govt) have similar setups?
