Seemed totally healthy and very young. I’m super surprised. Loved the cheesey Growing Pains as a kid.
Confirmed. Heart attack while playing hockey with his son.
How Canadian.

It’s a sign of the times that 69 seems so young to die for us.
I know and I was aware of that as I wrote it. He just seemed active and healthy.
Aw, damn. Must suck for the son. Was it the one who sings? The Blurred Lines guy. Why can’t I remember his name? Nope, not the singer.
This is a real shocker. He did seem quite fit and healthy.
Damn, why couldn’t it have been Kirk Cameron.
In case anyone is interested, Thicke was just on q last week, I haven’t heard the interview yet but I will now.
Alan had a good life. Still very active and still playing his favorite sport at 69.
I know his family is hurting. Losing someone just before Christmas is very difficult.
RIP Alan
David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and Patty Duke were also 69. Apparently it’s the new 27.
No, it was one of his other sons, Carter.
Greg Lake, too.
Geez, he posted on Twitter five hours ago! They didn’t waste any time.
RIP, Alan. He seemed like a decent guy.
RIP Alan. You were a great TV dad.
I didn’t know that he wrote the theme song for Diff’rent Strokes. That’s one of the better TV themes out there.
Having just turned 65, 69 seems too young to die. I’m just getting ready to retire and would like more than 4 years to enjoy my retirement.
My immediate reaction to this news was to begin singing the theme from “The Facts of Life”.
You take the good
You take the bad
You take them both
And there you have
The fact of life, the facts of life…
I just saw him in the first episode of This Is Us a few months ago.
Ditto. Must be something perverse in the genes.
He was on the Nerdist podcast a little while ago talking about a health scare that came up when he was playing hockey. Something to do with a collapsed lung and almost dying. I was surprised then that he was having health issues.
I told my wife “I guess we won’t be seeing him in ‘The Man-ny’ any more.”
RIP Alan.
Seems like I heard this years ago.
