Alaska Cruise Deals?

The Wall Street Journal published an article a few weeks back about deals on Alaska Cruises for this summer. Long story short, it was due to the bad economy. However, when I go online, there doesn’t seem to be any unusually good deals.

Not knowing anything about cuising, does anyone have any insight into getting a good deal?

Did you check out the web page mentioned in the WSJ column? www.alaskashottesttraveldeals.com I don’t know enough about cruises to say if those are really good deals or not.

Where are you looking? I just took a 12 day Mediterranean cruise, booked last minute, which came out to well under $100 / day a person. And not on a junk ship. I couldn’t not find good deals!

There seemed to be a price curve - long in the future, not too bad, then a bit higher, than much lower for things a month or two ahead. I didn’t look at Alaskan cruises, since we’ve been already, but Canal and Caribbean cruises were very cheap.

The only reason I could see for more demand would be from people scared away from Mexico - but the experiences are not quite the same.

My wife and I just checked into Alaskan cruise options (specifically. “cruisetour”, involving both a cruise portion and an inland portion) for mid-July, and the travel agent told us that things were pretty booked up.

She found us a couple of open cruisetours, but no special deals on them.

(We ended up deciding not to go for reasons that had nothing to do with the available options,)

Don’t know where the best deals are, but I did a 7 day Alaska cruise a month ago on a Holland America ship. We spent about $260 each per day including airfare, tips, shore excursions and everything.

Just want to say everyone should do an Alaska cruise, and we were happy with that cruise line.
