I have a Klasse Kriminale 7" that I didn’t know had a pop-up cover until I brought it home (score!).
I was just talking last night about how much the R. Crumb artwork on the J. Joplin/Big Bro. album Cheap Thrills freaked me out as a little kid.
The cover of Crimson King’s “The Court of the Crimson King” record is excellently creepy.
Inside covers on Eat a Peach by the Allman Brothers.
Republic by New Order. In fact, it’s my second favorite piece of visual art, ever, besides Garden of Earthly Delights. The extended cover art on the CD, combined with the cover, tells the story of America, the land of handsome yet isolated folks who nonetheless still have the promise of hope.
I liked a lot of the artwork on the Yes albums.
There’s a website somewhere that has a game where you guess the artist from the album art. They’re pretty obscure, so you have to have a pretty extensive collection to get them. If I find it, I’ll post it.
Blind Faith
Any of the covers by Hypgnosis, but especially, “Wish You Were Here” and “Ummagumma”
Keith Jarrett, “Nude Ants”. It’s just this gray pattern that, up close, does resemble nude ants in an abstract way. One of the tunes is…“New Dance”!
