Led Zep: How the west was won
One of my favorites from this year not yet mentioned is “Decoration Day” from the Drive-By Truckers. Not quite as good as their last one, but still one of the best this year.
I know. It’s because most of you people haven’t heard much of their music, isn’t it?
You just described 90% of all hip-hop, after they’ve laid down a decent single; they just toss of a couple of filler tracks and some ridiculous skits. Hip-hop, for the most part, is not an album friendly genre.
J-Live - Always Will Be (EP)
J-Live is the best lyricist in rap, and these are some of his best songs to date.
It’s because a lot of people are of the opinion that they suck with great vengeance and furious anger. I am of that opinion.
And fuck yeah, Kish Kash is good. Much better than their previous tripe (The Basement Jaxx).
Evanescence fallen
A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step
I absolutely LOVE this album, I can’t get enough of Maynard Keenan to begin with, and I think this album is better than the first one, which I STILL listen to constantly!
I also agree with the nominations for Audioslave - GREAT CD! One of these two albums in in my car CD player at all times!
I also like Songs for the Deaf.
My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves
The Black Keys - thickfreakness
White Stripes - Elephant
3 great albums! I cant really pick just one
- Apollo Sunshine - Katonah
- Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell
- Cat Power - You Are Free
- The Shins - Chutes too Narrow
- The White Stripes - Elephant
- Denali - The Instinct
- Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak
- Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
- Pretty Girls Make Graves - The New Romance
- The Strokes - Room on Fire
I’m iffy about that last one, but the others are certain. I’m dying to hear M83’s “Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts”, I’ve heard enough amazing things to make me suspect that maybe that one rightfully belongs somewhere on the list.

Rufus Wainwright - Want One
The M83 album is great, but may take a couple listens to really get into it.
I think for number one I’ll have to go with Basement Jaxx’s Kish Kash.
For pure psychological power, I’ll give an honorable mention to Xiu Xiu’s A Promise.
Also, a shout out to Dizzee Rascal.
OK, I remembered what goes in that 10th spot.
The Minus 5 - Down With Wilco
How could I forget this?
The Books, with The Lemon Of Pink. Awesome album. Everyone needs to listen to The Books.
Guitar Romantics - The Exploding Hearts
Feast of Wire - Calexico
Greendale - Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Quebec - Ween
Greendale - Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Steel Guitar Air Show - John Rauhaus
and some shameless Can-Con
Electric Version - The New Pornographers
Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone? - The Unicorns
I Love The Modern Way - Andrew Vincent & The Pirates
Love This Time - The Buttless Chaps
Talkin’ Honky Blues - Buck 65 (**Rubystreak… if you like hip-hop, check this out.
A head’s up for Neko Case fans… especially those in Tuscon. Firstly she starts recording her new album next month. Secondly, she’ll be playing a couple of shows in the Tuscon area with Calexico as her backup band!
