Alcohol leads to sinus congestion?

I’ve noticed lately that when I drink a glass or two of any kind of alcoholic beverage, my nose starts to stuff up. If I drink enough (i.e. get drunk), the next day my nose is congested and running still. Is this an allergy, or is there something in alcoholic beverages that could cause this?

Ehhh maybe

The common question is “Can I be allergic to alcohol?” Although alcohol can be the culprit, it usually is not.

Nearly 2 million Americans are allergic to the ingredients in certain alcoholic beverages. Alcohol can lower a person’s threshold so an allergy can become more serious. – (Book: Luks and Barbato, “You are What you Drink,” 1989)

I have a friend that is allergic to beer. So sad - all puffy and snuffy, like hayfever. Turns out, he’s allergic to hops. He switched to vodka and has no problem.

If it really bothers you, or you start to swell or have trouble breathing, go to the doctor. Otherwise, if it’s just annoying, see what makes it worse. Try not drinking for awhile then one night drink vodka. Wait a week and try beer. etc etc etc

Good Luck

I have noticed after a nite of drinking that in the morning, amid the normal conditions of the hangover I have to deal with a runny nose. I have no explainations for the symptom, only the solace of knowing you are not the only one.
