Aldebaran, If You Tried, Could You Be More Condescending?

El_Kabong,

I can’t say how much or how long you try this, since I don’t know of your record here.

But I guess you are also able to write interesting posts.
I didn’t see something of the kind so far, but it would be in any case far more pleasent to read.

Salaam. A.

  1. Yes, all the time.

  2. See above.

  3. No, only those who pass a certain degree of obnoxiousness. No, it’s not a hobby; more of a duty, really.

  4. I have surrealist tendencies, what can I say.

Really Aldebaran, try to relax a little bit. I can assure you you won’t be hearing any further from me.

Yoda, is that you??

This guy is still around?

The amazing thing about it is that he still doesn’t understand why he’s been pitted twce already.
Aldeberan, here’s a little tip that will get you far in the world, especially when dealing with us “childish Americans” it’s really easy to do

ready?

Stop taking yourself so goddamned seriously. You’ll do everyone, including yourself, a favor.

Heck, throw the word Cognitive in front of my username and he can have mine.

For the record, Aldebaran, and I’m quite sure that this won’t sink in, calling people childish is condescending, and using “quotes” in this “fashion” is “derisive.”

The answer is yes! Yes, he can be more condescending!

No, the answer is none. None more black. But you should have seen the album cover he WANTED to do.

Hey, while we’re dog-piling, can we also pit his doppleganger, Zanthor, or would that be considered child abuse?

bizzwire,

Care to re-read your post and discover what you are doing?

Others:
Care to tell him he is condescending, utterly childish and deliberately insulting?

Oh… sorry… Of course he isn’t. He belongs to The Group…, he “fits in”, is “melted down”… Therefore he thinks he can act as if the website belongs to him by which he is entitled to “make the rules” and command everyone how to “behave” in order to please his selective reading skills…
In short: He is like you all and thus acceptable for The Group which can’t do anything wrong. Forgot. So sorry…

Please proceed bizzwire. You are on the right track.

By the way: calling an Arab a dog could have very unpleasent consequences for you in real-life-time. Just an educational remark.
Aldebaran.

El_Kabong, internet bully? [Foghorn Leghorn] Wha, Ah nevah, nawt ina millionah yeahs. Ah declah! [/FL]

I think we’ve disagreed on polite terms a few times. This must be some new persona. Like Madonna constantly reinventing herself, perhaps?

OR, maybe someone got a teensy bit defensive. Hey Aldebaran, denial is not just a river in Egypt. {{Alde}} See, I don’t even feel like dropping a cluster bomb on Belgium anymore. GAH! Another horrible American joke. Bad me. Smacks self with newspaper Hey, that feels pretty good… GAH!

Aldebaran, stop looking for excuses for people hating you and your obnoxious childish condescending attitude. Shut the fuck up and come back when you’re ready to act like an adult.

(Yes I realize I was being somewhat condescending, however since Alde doesn’t seem to think theres anything wrong with that…)

The I guess Bizzwire would have had a problem provided he had actually called you a dog.
Too bad he didn’t

My last post was in response to this bolded accusation, if that wasn’t clear. El_Kabong is not a war mongering American hawk, Aldebaran. Nor, in my experience, is El_Kabong particularly rude to anyone. Based on some of your postings, Aldebaran, I think you have a tendency to condemn your potential allies as much as your opponents by painting with such a broad brush. Americans, as a group, don’t agree on much of anything.

Again, for clarity, Americans don’t think of one mind.

Again, for triple redundant clarity, Americans disagree on many things.

He wasn’t calling you a dog by the way, it’s a figure of speech.

WOW

I’ve just read every linked thread, and I have no words to express how I feel. I’ve been for a long time as a lurker and I guess a drive-by poster. I have no idea how someone who has lurked here can seriously act that way. Just the fact that he went into GD without precise cites is unimaginable (sp?)!

Am I the only one who has trouble following him? English is not my first language either, but I think I’m pretty good, good enough to follow every thread I read. Akdebaran, if you need help with your English, since it’s a language you’ve never studied, and I speak French fluently, maybe just maybe if you need help understanding what some people are saying here, I could help you…

Anyways, the help is there for grabs… just let me know

Thanks for the heads-up, Aldebaran (“heads-up;” a slang term meaning timely information or warning). As other have mentioned, I did not call you a dog. In fact, my post did not concern you, nor even mention you, so why don’t you heed the advice of people who know better and just throttle back a little.

I’m sorry that your experience on this board has been so negative, but you really have only yourself to blame. People here love a good scrap (fight, debate), and you clearly have some strong viewpoints that you’d like to share. Unfortunately, your presentation style, your defensive posture towards any opposing viewpoints and your use of vague or unsubstantiated facts and figures (a big no-no around here) is keeping you from getting your message across.

It’s not personal. Well, yes it is, because you’re a jerk. What I mean to say is that we’re not picking on you for your viewpoints, or because you’re Arab or Dutch -OK, maybe just a little because you’re Dutch- or because we are some sort of all-American cabal bent on stifling dissenting opinions. There have been a number of people who spewed anti-Islamic/ anti-Arab venom as sloppily and haphazardly as your anti- US threads. They didn’t last too long. You should learn from their mistakes.

(this is the part where you realize what an idiot you’ve been and vow to clean up your act)

Now THAT is funny!

Thanks.

Arf!

There is no such part. I’ve known since the first pitting that this guy was never going to figure out what everybody really finds so objectionable in his posts, because he is inextricably caught up in his bizarre little syllogism:

Everybody on the Board is an American.

All Americans are evil, imperialist, bloodthirsty, empty-headed or brainwashed yes-men (and -women) who cannot tolerate a diversity of views who will go to any length to ostracize anyone who dares to criticize American foreign policy.

Therefore, if he meets with ostracism for his posts, it demonstrates nothing more than the shortcomings of his critic.

His strict adherence to this atrocious bit of illogic protects him from ever having to entertain the notion that many people here object not to his opinions (which, as everybody keeps pointing out may meet not just with tolerance but with agreement), but to his attitude, which is almost invariably deeply offensive. Nonetheless, I keep reading these threads waiting for the truth to dawn on him, anyway. It’s like watching West Side Story and hoping it will turn out better this time.

So since the great realization will not be coming at any point, I figured I’d chip in here with the note for our friend that a “melt-down” is not the process whereby a new poster finally abandons all vestiges of independent thought and finally becomes one with the great uber-Mind that is the SDMB, as you seem to have concluded. Perhaps you’re thinking of some psychic version of a melting pot; I don’t know. Actually, I believe the term is used here to refer to the rapid descent into complete irrationality and disregard of Board rules and customs that generally leads to a person’s getting banned from the Boards. At least, I think that’s how they mean it.

Also, for the record, it was clear to a native English speaker that nobody called you a dog, and, if you didn’t know, FYI means “for your information.”

I’m not Dutch. My mother was Belgian. Calling a Belgian a Dutch is an insult. I’m Belgian through my late mother, yet that is my second citizenship. My place of birth, my citizenship and my main residence is the country of my late father.

Now, about your remarks:

  1. You are completely wrong and so are all the others. But you have no clue since you are too much willing to fall blindfolded in the trap of the easy excuse = to call any foreigner (and especially when you think he is Arab) who doesn’t agree with your current government a “US hater”

LOL.

  1. I explained why I’m reluctant to give what you call “evidence” = links to websites or whatever on the internet. Several times.
Read my posts before starting to rant.
I explained several times that my sources are various and for 99% in non English languages and that I don’t place them, or even one line out of them, on the WWW. I’m restricted in doing that. And even when that was not the case, what good would it do to place information here that people can’t read.

I gave at the demand of a member one link to an article of a Norvegian Magazine to underscore a post. I gave on the demand of that member a translation, pointing out that it was the summary of the main points of the article.
Under that post of mine an other member came along with an incredible hostile formulated post, telling the other person that my translation was “incomplete”. Sorry, but a summary is a summary, no? Next that same member came up with the link to an English version of the story. Which was inaccurate.
I told the member who first asked the translation that the English version was inaccurate. His answer was that he got what he wanted…In other words: he preferred the inaccurate translation above my accurate summary. Because that one was in English.

Sorry? How far must one go here? Do you really think I can take such people serious?

  1. My style is my style. And I don’t change my style because people who think they can make the rules on a website think they can command me to change it. Sorry.
And it is difficult enough as it is for me to formulate my thoughts in a language I don’t master. In addition I have sometimes difficulties to write in any language tout court.

  2. What “opposing viewpoints”? I didn’t see any viewpoints coming so far. All I saw was The Group who lives under the delusion they can command others to write in a style that pleases their eyes trying to “get me” because my style isn’t theirs.
If you find that “opposing viewpoints” contributing to a thread, that is your choice. I don’t. I find it disruptive behaviour.

  3. Take a closer look at your “It’s not personal. Well, yes it is, because you’re a jerk”.
Sorry, if you think I’m impressed… You only give a very negative and uneducated picture of yourself.

  4. I don’t post anti-US threads. See above my remark about you people willingly blindfolded falling in that easy-excuse-to-attack trap.
This of course makes me smile and I can’t possibly take such people serious. The more since the same persons relentlessly try to “change” me in order to “obey them” or to be “toasted” or whatever description you people invent for you primary school game.

  5. Look at these lines of yours:

“You should learn from their mistakes”
and
“this is the part where you realize what an idiot you’ve been and vow to clean up your act”

Sorry? When did I ever gave you permission to command me … I don’t recall the occasion, yet you and others act all over the place here as if I did.
And for your additional information: The only person on the globe who has permission to call me an idiot is the head of my family, which is also the only one from whom I take orders.

  1. On other message boards I have no difficulties with my writing style at all. That is because people there know me. You don’t know me. All you do is going in attack-, insult-, denigrating- and childplay mode.

Salaam.
Aldebaran.

This being the pit, Aldebaran, the “viewpoints” concern you. You are the subject in this thread.

You’ve done it again. Doh. Aholibah nailed that one.
