Ever wonder how your management at work got to where they are?
Now I don’t have a chip on my shoulder about senior management. I’ve had some pretty smart and competent directors and VP’s from whom I’ve learned a lot.
Not this time around though.
My CIO doesn’t know thing one about leading an IT division. Even the most basic IT related management concepts are a foreign concept to him. He doesn’t know what he doesn’t know but what’s worse is that he pretends that he knows. It’s incredibly hard to provide him with information about a key issue while trying to provide him with enough background info but not so much that he realizes you’re dumbing things down for him. Some days it’s all I can do to keep him from painting himself and the entire department into a corner.
If that wasn’t bad enough… the CEO is an even bigger dumbass, completely out of touch with reality. I can’t say specifically which very popular monopoly institution we are in the business of promoting and actively supporting but I’ll paraphrase…“You know, *cheating spouses * really put a stain on the institution of marriage. It will be a really good marketing and PR move if we put together a cycling team from this organization to participate in the Ride for the Cure with team jerseys promoting marriage.”
How did these people rise to these positions of responsibility and power? Who was asleep at the helm how did they pass the most rudimentary tests of competence and applied knowledge?
