Alias 12-7-03...SPOILERS

The return of Will! Hurrah!

OK, why is it that every time a character on a TV show has to disappear, or a character is to be portrayed as naive or kinda simple, he’s from Wisconsin? Not like I’m a native or anything, but it could give a guy a complex after a while. Did they say where in WI Will was supposed to be? I didn’t catch a city at all.

Good ep overall despite some glaringly obvious turns of events. Did anyone doubt for a moment that Will and Alison were going to meet up and that Alison would end up on the receiving end of some hurting? Nice though that Will did get to kick her ass and stick her, but doesn’t he know by know that unless you see them laid out in the morgue partially dissected they always come back? And sometimes not even a dissection stops them. Sydney shoulda shot Alison AND Sark in the head a few times. That would at least have slowed them down.

Similarly, did anyone think Lindsey was going to get out of this alive? So, do we think Sloane has the Rimbaldi device or did Lindsey pull a double-cross? My money’s on Lindsey, since he had no interest in Syd’s getting out alive and only went through with the “exchange” to get a shot at her.

All the shippers out there will undoubtedly be overjoyed at the Will/Syd hookup. I never really cared one way or the other if the two of them got together but it worked for me on a “two people reconnecting with their pasts” level. And any excuse to get Will out of his shirt works for me on any number of levels…

Jack and Vaughn’s getting out of custody and Dixon’s return (and Sydney’s return for that matter) seemed a little pat. Lindsey’s death or no Lindsey’s death, Sydney is still believed responsible for the death of the Russian guy (who isn’t really dead, but there was nothing stated that anyone besides Will and Syd knew that). I guess we’re supposed to assume that Syd and Will were debriefed but a line or two of dialog would have been nice.

And what do we think the “viable tissue” is?

No offense, Otto, but I had to laugh out loud…here, after all these episodes with names popping up on screen like BERLIN and WARSAW and PARIS and MOSCOW and PRAGUE… to see WISCONSIN just cracked me up.

It was a good episode, with a few eyebrow raising coincidences, but that is nothing new.

My guess is the tissue is necessary to get the Rimbaldi machine to do some final wonderful trick. Perhaps the “viable tissue” is Rimbaldi’s fingerprint? I doubt it is material after the Rimbaldi bris.

Okay, I’ll be the schmuck who asks for a “fill me in on what happened before the opening credits” thing.

Anyone?

Great episode. Only problem I had was that Alison and Syd had a huge, knockdown, drag out, anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better fight at the end of the season last year. Are we really supposed to believe that Cheese Boy (sorry, Otto) can take her out hand-to-hand, and quickly?!?

Allison’s not dead. Remember, this is the woman that escaped from an ambulance after Syd beat the living crap out of her earlier this year.

Will’s obviously changed since the night Syd disappeared. Hell, he carries a gun. So the Will/Allison fight wasn’t too bad.

Lazarey being alive was not entirely a shock. His boy Sark working on him with a blowtorch was, though.

Lindsey’s dead, Sloane has the device (I’m sure of it) and Jack/Vaughn got off easy. Wow, that sure worked out well.

I think Sloane has the device too, but I don’t think for one second that he spared Syd’s life because he “loves” her as he claims to. I think he needs her for some reason–probably having to do with the Rimbaldi device.
I knew Lindsey’s days were numbered as soon as I saw Sloane give his hired hitman the information and photo of the target. If they didn’t show it to the audience then it had to be Lindsey.

I wonder if the tissue in the little vial has something to do with that mysterious incision on Syd’s stomach?

Oh, and Allison is definitely not dead. I fully expected the last shot of the episode to show the empty hallway where she had been lying.

Very nice episode overall, and seeing Will again (shirtless!) was well-worth the wait.

I enjoyed Will, Verson 2.0 - looked good, acted less wimpy, seemed somehow smarter than before. The exchange between him and Syd as he was leaving the CIA was sweet.

Anyone know if he’s due to come back from time to time?

Oh please, you should’ve known as soon as Lindsey ordered the hit.

I wonder if Lindsey had any contingecy plans, any “open only in the event of my death” type files lying about waiting to be discovered?

What I couldn’t figure out is how Sark knew about Cronenberg (forget his character name). Something tells me that Sloan and him are still working together. Either that, or Lauren is up to something, since she knew about it too. Or maybe Cronenberg’s wacky assistant is in on it?

And how the hell did Sark know about Will and Laserey’s secret meeting? As far as we were shown, Syd and Will orchestrated this meeting by themselves, and didn’t tell anyone.

Pretty silly move on Lindsey (or the writers?) part.

I wonder though, why Lazeray faked his death. Obviously, he nd Sark/covenant are not that close, so he didn’t do it to get them the money.

Sark found out about the meeting when he got the “St. Aiden” info from the dear Dr. Cronenberg. He obviously put together who it referred to and tracked Lazarey.

How did Sark find the Doc? Sloane.

Why would it be silly of Lindsey to have files to be unsealed and plots to be unfolded in the event of his death?

I agree that Sloan doesn’t “love” Sydney, but I kinda doubt the needing her for the device theory. The he hasn’t gotten rid of Sydney is because she’s still rather valuable.

Sloan has shown to the world that he’s some good soul. So much so that he is being used as a resource. By continuing to play that role, he can manipulate situations and use Syd for various needs.

To Sloan, Sydney is much more useful alive than dead.

It really depends on whether the Prophecy refers to Syd or Irina. We know that Irina said that it was Syd, but nothing Irina’s ever said can be taken at face value.

Assuming it is Syd, then Sloane can’t get rid of her. It would make his 30-year quest useless.

I couldn’t disagree more with those posters who believe Sloan doesn’t actually love Sydney. I’ve always though that affection was pretty obvious, starting fairly early on through the series, and unwavering despite some pretty harsh developments.

In fact, early on in Season One, I made a personal prediction that Sloane will eventually be found out to be Sydney’s biological father (just look at those eyes!). Although it has yet to pass, I’d be shocked (SHOCKED!) if it doesn’t come true this or next season. Particularly given these frequent throwaway lines and loving gazes on the part of Sloane.

If Sloane is Syd’s father, I will fly to LA and smack J.J. around repeatedly. They’ve spent too much time building the Jack-Sydney father-daughter relationship to throw it away like that.

Plus, Jack Bristow is a badass.

brianjedi: That seems like kind of an overreaction to me.

First of all, nobody said anything about throwing anything away. Jack doesn’t need to die. He can still be a badass, and he can still be on the show.

And second of all, assuming Sloane is the biological father, OF COURSE they’re going to build up the Jack-Sydney relationship before they reveal it. That would pretty much be the point. There isn’t much drama in a revelation if the viewer isn’t emotionally invested in the outcome.

In other words, I’d say the fact that it seems to bother you so much is just that much more evidence that it’s probably the case.

This news item indicates that Isabella Rossellini will become part of the cast as Irina’s sister (Sydney’s aunt).

lefty, this season is just proof that when J.J. tries to throw away vast portions of Alias storylines, it sucks. He’s written himself into a hole and is having a hell of a time getting out.

I love the show, but this “two years” thing has been a disaster. SD-6 shouldn’t have come down when it did. By doing that, it backed them into a corner.

Suddenly revealing Sloane to be Syd’s father serves no purpose other than to shock the viewers one night. Besides, without Irina around, it’s gonna be difficult to pull off.

Interesting about Isabella Rossellini doing some episodes. This could set up the rumored cameo that they’re trying to talk Lena Olin into doing later in the year.

I disagree that the missing two years has been a disaster. I think the timeframe should’ve maybe been shorter, just because jumping from 2003 to 2005 was a huge leap. They haven’t made any sort of an issue out of what year it is, though (no references to the intervening presidential election or current events) and my feeling is that by the end of the current season or early in season 4 the show’s time and real time will be synched up. But had the time been shorter some of the major dramatic structure of the season, especially Vaughn and Bug’s marriage, would not have worked. I wouldn’t have easily accepted a Vaughn so callow that he could get over Syd and fall in love with someone else too quickly.

I’d love to see Isabella Rosselini pop in for a visit. I hope she’ll be nuts. She’s so cool when she’s nuts.

>>Did they say where in WI Will was supposed to be?

Well, I did see him the other day in the 'hood (eating a brat)… but that’s all I’ll say.
(I did ask Ed to take my location off the server before I posted this, didn’t I?)
